Some or all forms of Tarceva may become available as generic erlotinib after November 2018, depending on FDA approval and patent expiration.
My FIL currrently is on the chemo pill for lung cancer/kidney cancer. He pays a bit more for each pill. Hope his money lasts until 2018.

You would think this would fall under gauging. Is there any legislation initiated to stop this? Why is it legal if people's life depends on a medication? It seems like this is a scam that could soon get way out of hand. It just makes me really sad to see so many businesses in this country be lost or sold to uncontrollable sources.

Hi Shoekitty!
You are right, I would think it is price gauging. MGM's post includes a link to an article which mentions the introduction of a bill addressing the problem.

And that to me is totally outrageous. It's terrible that there is no government intervention.

I'm VERY happy the sale of this company has been rescinded but unhappy at the thought of any substantial increase in cost.
Pharmaceutical companies make money hand over fist, their profit margins are off the charts. the same goes for OTC medications as well.
Just a few years ago, a Pharmaceutical company decided that profit was more important than children's lives and was going to stop making a life saving drug. The federal government filed a lawsuit in order to force them to manufacture the drug.

Greed is utterly disgusting!!!!!!!!!!

The drug was sold, new owners raising the price. To me 'corporate greed'. To bad that this is becoming the norm.
In Canada, they set the price of the drug, and what can be charged.

This story is appalling. "Money is the root of all evil" is surely applicable here.

It's happening to me. And it's not a pharmaceutical decision. CVS Caremark, the company that I get meds from has now declared "specialty drugs."
Carafate solution, that is mostly water, used to cost me $15 for a three month supply. It's now $205. I've been stockpiling it and will reduce how much I take. I discussed this with my doctor.
Diazepam vaginal suppositories, that I use for a painful gyn problem, may not meet the prior approval I need this month. There is no substitute; I think the pain would kill me. I don't know where I'll find $300 a month. I'll probably try Canada. They're $15 there. I grew up in Buffalo, N.Y.; the Cancer Center there sent people ten miles across the border.
Lyrica outlived it's patent but got a court ruling that generics could not be made yet. It's one of Pfizer's most lucrative meds. Big Pharma owns our government.
