Does anyone here listen to Lewis Capaldi? He has been absent from the music scene for a couple of years. He was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome and then just disappeared. Well he's back! His newest release is called Survive. He seems to be quite the tortured soul but I really enjoy his music.

@monicakm ,

You know, I thought no, I don't know him though the name sounded familiar.

So I went to listen to "Wish You Were Here" and as one commented-"need a box of tissues. thank you for that beautiful song."

I recognized the older man in the video and thought-I know him. He is Peter Capaldi a famous actor. It is Lewis 2nd cousin once removed.

Then I listened to "Someone You Loved." Yes, I have heard that song! It remained no 1 on the UK singles chart for 7 weeks.

What a great songwriter he is. He wrote Someone You loved when he was 22.He lost his voice and was diagnosed with tourettes; took 2 years off to deal with his mental health. His latest song "Survive" is very moving too.

There are so many great young song writers now that we don't always know I realized, especially if we tend to listen to one genre of music.  I then heard Lil Nas x, "Old Town Road. If you had asked me if I knew of his songs, I would have said no but yes I know and love that song. It holds a record for the no. 1 song for 19 weeks on The Billboard Hot no 1 along with The Bar Song by Shaboozey.

Music sung from the soul and heart I think is what really speaks to people. And I don't remember who said this to a writer-"Write what you know." That is what becomes the most meaningful.

Anyway, thanks @monicakm  for mentioning this wonderful young songwriter and singer.Heart

DH and I both love his music.  We both listen to music across most genres and I discovered Lewis first.

We were in my car and his song "Someone You Loved" came on and I was singing along.  DH asked how I knew it; I said because I have my SiriusXM tuned to a variety of stations and switch back and forth.

DH was impressed with Capaldi and we've both been fans ever since.

I loved at Glastonbury (2023) where he had to stop singing as his Tourette's kicked in.  The crowd started singing and finished the song for him.  Brought tears to my eyes.  Still does when I watch it on YouTube.

@monicakm I love Lewis so much.

He is so funny! If you look for videos of him on Graham Norton or with Niall Horan (From One Direction) they are LOL funny.

And then he writes those songs & sings them with that gorgeous voice.

Love him!

@Venezia

That is wonderful that you got to watch him at that concert. What a moment that must have been!

@on the bay - Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead anyone.  I wasn't at the concert.  Some friends were, but I watched on tv, when it was broadcast later.  Even watching it on tv though - yes, it was a moment.

@Dusty1,

I never would have imagined that he was funny because his songs express so much pain.

I went to watch some of his interviews and he is so funny! 'The Scottish Beonce" as he calls himself.

He also seems so humble and positive and very grounded too.

This.  Brought tears to my eyes, too, @Venezia .  Just made the song that much better.
