Hmmm.... now that I read the explanation behind the idea it doesn't sound so..... but that means a small mountain of can goods has to be in each classroom. Are the students mature enough not to hurl canned food at other students? And if there's an intruder, who gives the order to start hurling cans, or do students just start grabbing cans and hurling them whenever they feel like they need to?

No, I think there's probably a better way to deal with an intruder in the school.

That's what came to my mind, too. Adding new "weapons" to a classroom seems like potential for more violence, student against student. Maybe student against teacher, who knows? And it certainly doesn't seem like a viable defense in the presence of a person with a gun or guns. I can't see this giving students or their parents a new-found feeling of safety.
