Re: Lessons Learned Lasting A Lifetime

I also had an excellent sociology teacher who said something I listened to and it played a big part in a big decision I had to make.  Thank you, Mr. Arnold!

@Witchy Woman...I can relate to so much that you shared in your post, except I never worked in the White House...(just a small irrelevant difference...lol)...How impressive!...I bet you could share some great stories!

I started out at IBM and loved my job...was promoted to "Private Secretary"...lol... after about only six months... and then, after I married and moved to another State, I ended up at a State job as Administrative Assistant to several attorneys...(same as Secretary...only changed to a more prestigous title...lol)

And, oh my, those mini skirts!...What were we thinking?...lol

Oh, the memories and those innocent, simple times....well, maybe for a few exceptions!  Woman Very Happy

Re: Lessons Learned Lasting A Lifetime

i had a foods class that taught me so much about coking.  not fancy but baking bread, canning and the like.  it gave me a long long love of cooking.

i also had library science class and worked in the school .obrary.  this helped me with college and gained me a career at the library.

i had a home teacher in the first grade(due to illness) and she taght me to read and to love knowledge of all kinds.  she would go to the library and check out books for me to read and that helped me develop a love of learninmg.

@jubilant, I learned in high school that my own insular existence wasn't everyone's. I had a Sociology teacher who taught me to expand my horizons and think outside of the box.

My upbringing was one of intolerance and I learned that there are other ways of looking at the world. She made a real difference in my thought processes and I am eternally grateful.

Than you for pointing out that thinking for oneself and expanding your life past the limited experiences you were given is worth far more than a typing class!

Typing classes were just the beginning for me....it's what took place after that that gave me limited experiences....  And for that I am eternally thankful for.

We never know what will happen to the people we love, so remember this with your love ones. I know this was not the type of lessons you were thinking ,but i think this is the most important lesson in life.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.

@ShowMe - They learned how to type using a computer in school. Both can type really well. It was me that had a harder time switching to the computer, lol.

However, I would still like to have another selectic typewriter!

@goldensrbest......agree with you on that.  It should be started with babies on up......  Tell those you love that you love them.....  Everyone needs to be loved.  Heart

@riley1.....  I had a hard time switching too.....  I fought it, as I said on here earlier.  But am glad I learned it.

With as many letters I sent out using that typewriter, I had to order the ribbon cartridges by the case.  Every month the company I was with would have an ad in the Fortune 500 magazine.....and we received that ad monthly on an 8 x 11 heavy weight sheet......something like 100 of them.  Each one had a separately type written letter (the same letter) that was accompanied by the ad.  In those days, no way to have it printed out with a list like you can do today.

The selectric was a gem.  Had several different font balls that we used for different things too.

@MyShadowLove

Yes, what WERE we thinking with those skirts??  If, when you are seated, there is NO fabric underneath you, your skirt is TOO short! Cat LOL

Believe me, even though I was at the WH, and worked for some "important" folks, they hadn't any clue who I was!

To them, I was just the "girl" at the desk.  If you were smart (and I was), you just blended in with the drapes and spoke only when you were spoken to!
