After 19 minutes of dueling, with four bidders on the telephone and one in the room, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” sold on Wednesday night for $450.3 million with fees, shattering the high for any work of art sold at auction.

There were gasps throughout the sale, as the bids climbed by tens of millions up to $225 million, by fives up to $260 million, and then by twos.

It has been highly rumored the buyer could be Alice Louise Walton, heiress to the fortune of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Well, guess I may have helped make that happen.

Yesterday watched the documentary on this masterpiece. Quite impressive seeing the painting. His use of light incredible.

I heard about it on the Italian national news.Not surprised about the huge amount of money paid.

Leonardo and Michelangelo are the 2 most famous artists in Italy.

Just so you know....it was not I who bought the painting.  I don't like it; it looks like the Mona Lisa with facial hair.

If it was bought by the Walton heiress, perhaps it'll end up in the museum in Arkansas.

That was my immediate thought when I saw it @Kachina624. 

They look related - -dreamy half-closed eyes with bags, long thin nose, thin crinkly lips, small chin, same hair, similar expressions......

I believe they said it was bought by an extremely rich Russian businessman.
