@Cakers3 wrote:@Kachina624 We have no state income tax here so we are not eligible.
I haven't seen anything about any rebates offered in other ways, so far.
Good for you-but what about those who do not file state taxes where you are?
@Cakers3 @chrystaltree I explained on my original post that they can apply to receive the payment.

This "free" money will cause inflation to go higher by lowering the value of the dollar as more money floods the market.

North Carolina has had a Significant budget surplus which has grown larger over the past three years. The legislature has considered and voted down (along on party lines) bringing to the floor for discussion & vote the following:
1-Stop the gas tax until gas returns to a level (which they) determined
2-Remove tax on Food for one calendar year and reassess
3-Remove property tax for those over age 65
4-Remove State tax on Social Security.
These are not unique, or ground breaking changes.
Do I expect them here? Nope!

Well Texas doesnt have a State Income Tax so we arent getting anything......

@Spurt They could still give payments to citizens who can prove residency. They certainly could give increases to retired state employees living in fixed incomes. I have a keen interest in that.

@Drythe Our legislature, in its generosity mode, also removed the income tax on social security payments and gave huge pay increases to teachers and state police and a nice increase to all state employees.

My sister, a retired State Employee would like that too....The only thing I heard about was the 16B Covid Relief Funds distributed to the cities and then given to various programs....

In California the last that I heard our state legislature had voted down temporarily suspending the gas tax and were considering perhaps gas cards with cash on them.
I have not really kept up with it. I have come to the conclusion that if I receive it great, if not there is not much that I can do about it.

Just be sure to include it on your federal return next year. You know they'll expect it. Nothing comes without strings attached, at least not for most of us.
