@Jo1313    This thread is a regular trip down memory lane.  The car my mom bought after the Studebaker was a Ford Maverick in a pretty dark metallic green.  It seemed so luxurious after the ole Studebaker haha.

My Ford Maverick was red with a black rag top..red plaid interior..no power steering..had to pay extra for a heater and AM/FM radio...I cried when the mechanic said "don't bring it back"..it couldn't pass NYS inspection..

I would give anything to have manual roll up windows today!..LOL

Less than 2% of cars today are manual transmissions.    That's why a stick-shift is an ANTI-THEFT DEVICE.

I had driver's ed in high school. The car was an automatic shift sedan and two other students were in the car with me and the instructor.  At the same time, my Dad was teaching me to drive the stick-shift on our VW bug.  I kept reaching for the stick-shift in the driver's ed car, lol.  I took my driving test in the VW bug, parallel parking was so easy, lots of room to spare.  We had a few of those flower stickers on the back of the bug.

War is not a video game others play to entertain us. “Gamifying” war strips away the humanity of real people and is a profound moral failure.

We too had driver's ed in school, classroom and actual driving. Then a classmate took me for my test. I was a wreck, but I passed! My sister did not. . . she failed 3 times.

My dad taught me, my sister, along with all the cousins in my family, and my mom.  He also taught my nephews.

The summer before I turned 16 (October b/d), he would take me to parking lots on Sundays.  The best was teaching me to parallel parkWoman Surprised  He would stand at a spot, with a construction cone he somehow got a hold of, and I would have to park without running over his feet!  Dad was a back seat driver until he passed at 97.Woman Tongue

I also took Drivers' Ed in high school.  Four 16 year old Catholic HS girls in the car.  I remember our young teacher had just gotten married.  I really felt bad for that poor guy - I don't know how he survived!

Bell Road was still a dirt road.

10th grade I flunked English and Spanish ..Went in

to sign up for summer school ....took the English and

ditched the Spanish .... and signed up for drivers ed
instead .. there would have  been no one at home

who would take the time to teach me how to drive

it was my only chance .... stick ****** .. and the instructor

took us right out on the express way ....I passed and took

the bus down town to get that permit first thing ... Luckily

a grandmother took me for the road test ...Never had a

chance to own a car or anything .. just wanted that license

just in case I had access to a car ....and gas was 25 cents a gallon .... you could fill up your car with change in the sofa !!!!!!
