Laundry help with yellow & whites

Argh! I love sunny yellow T-shirts & PJ's, towels, etc. but no matter how carefully I launder, they all seem to get a gray dingy look. Same with white socks, they get gray no matter what.

What do you use to keep yellows nice & sunny, and white socks nice and white?
