Amen to that! It's much better than making fun of a QVC host's stutter.

May be true for you but some folks that have a bad habit of this behavior offend others. It's not funny when a child is hurt, missing, or worse and that goes for all the awful things that ocurr. Laughing about it doesn't communicate very much kindness or concern.

There is one QVC host who does this..... He is always trying to be funny,( and sadly he is not funny) and if he is not cracking a joke, he is talking about his farm, or his dogs or his Hobbies .....or his this or his that. Like the world revolves around him. These kind of people just make others not want to be around them.

Laughter is great but I don't think this really applies in this particular situation.

I have never laughed at anyone's misfortune or would I ever take pleasure in it. Nor do I laugh inappropriately. In fact, I've just learned to laugh again very recently. However, many in this thread seem to to think it's ok to hate on or make fun of someone's stutter and other illnesses. (posting was removed). No, I'm not including you. Just read through this whole thread, it's vial. Maybe, these people need to learn to laugh more and personally criticize others less.

The laughing woman in my office?
She would make fun of someone's stutter.

@Daisy wrote:It reminds me of some people who have a permanent smile on their face while you're talking with them. That would be nice if you're telling them good news, but some people tend to do that even if you're telling them something not so nice...such as your car needs new tires, you think you're getting a bad cold, your washing machine broke, etc.
Seriously! How would they feel if they rattled off bad news and you stood there with a smile on your face?
I feel like having someone film these people to show them what they look like.

Sounds like social awkwardness. It's a disorder a lot of people have, they just don't know how to handle others or what to do in social situations. Often they really don't know what others find funny or what's not funny.

It reminds me of this 'lol speak' that I see sometimes. It's lol this and lol that and lol lol lol lol - STOP IT! lame
You mean like posters who say something they know is totally obviously snotty and then type lol at the end? AFAIC that's the same as ending a comment with a sneer or the equivalent of * you.
Yeah, that too!
'Snotty' is the perfect word to describe that.
Do you see just a little bit how your comments to those of us who might inject an occasional "LOL" to make sure readers understand we are joking could be construed as public humiliation.

Uh, no. First of all I was not referencing those who use the occasional 'lol', as I totally understand that; and secondly, there is no way that anybody is being humiliated here, publicly or otherwise. I don't say things to humiliate people, anyway, but that's a pretty looooonnnnggg stretch. ![]()
