I just got a call from the vet. Boo's blood tests are back and they're as good as could be, and that means he has arthritis.
This poor cat! Since December, when he had surgery, he wnt through a period of real depression. He seems to be feeling better but he's still not the happy, carefree little cat he used to be. And he's not little either; though he doesn't eat much he's packed on two pounds since December and now weighs 18 lbs.--way too much, but it hurts him to move so he's not getting much exercise.
The vet said there is no long-term pain medication for this situation, but suggested I start giving him the cat form of glucosimine. For the foreseeable future, we'll be carrying him around and lifting him up and down from the beds, sofa, etc. I'm happy to do it but he's such a pathetic sight.
I'm glad, however, that it's not diabetes or anything else. This may not be treatable but we can help him be comfortable (bought some new toys to try to get him moving a little more) and just give him lots of love.
