Re: Last Night This Bothered Me While Watching

@dooBdoo...thanks for that info...I despise government waste and am happy to know I didn't spend money on the event.

Do my tax dollars fund this event?

@Mom2Dogs, I have no idea, but I am sure they funded MO's dress!!!

The dinner:

"The dinner is paid for by tickets bought by the people attending the dinner, most are actually purchased by corporations and given to their employees and guests.  The dinner is also a fund raiser for scholarships for journalism students."

Clothing:

"Here's how Joanna Rosholm, press secretary to the first lady, explains it:

'Mrs. Obama pays for her clothing. For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady's clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government. They are then stored by the National Archives.''"

If you were right (and you weren't), then your tax dollars would have funded every FLOTUS' dress.   Yes, all of them.

Oh my.  You'd have to find something else to complain about for the current FLOTUS.  Smiley Surprised

@mstyrion 1 is correct.  They buy their own clothes and they ALSO buy all the food they eat at the White House except for State functions.

Sometimes clothes are donated by designers and have been for every modern day FLOTUS.

Celebrities and politicians are so connected. All those egos, is there any air left?

Oh good grief, that dinner is cotton candy,.  It's fun, it's entertainment, it's supposed to be silly and enteraining.  A "time out" for all the serious stuff.  It's all about smchmoozinng and photo ops and repayings those $$$ campaign contributors.  We get it, you don't like this adminsisration and Will & Jada.  Who you must know personally, you have so much animosity toward them.  I suspext the fact that Potus did such an amazing job at that dinner that he was so funny and gracious and warm and human and handsome is what really bothers you......not Jada's smile.
