Lancaster PA area- Amish quilts??

My husband and I have tentative plans to be in the NE PA area in a few weeks to visit family. I told him that I'd like to stop in the Lancaster (and surrounding) area and look for a quilt. I've been to that area before, but it's been a long time.

Anyone from around there who might be able to suggest a good shop or two for us to look at? I'm trying to do a little advance work. My husband has some health challenges so walking for miles on end is not possible. So I thought I'd look for some suggestions here. We won't be in that area long- just a few hours- or an overnight depending on when we get there.

Thanks.

There are maps of the area that should help you.

Many of the stores have reviews on sites like Yahoo and Yelp, etc.

Have fun!

You may want to check the website www.padutchcountry.com for information on places to visit in Lancaster County. There are a lot of great quilt shops on Route 340 in the towns of Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. There is also a great group of shops in a place called Kitchen Kettle Village located in Intercourse. Enjoy your trip to PA.

Thanks. As I said, I haven't been up that way in quite awhile. We'll be in the Wilkes-Barre area- a little west of there and I know it's an easy drive down to Lancaster. My plan is to stop there on our way back to Atlanta.

Just a reminder the shops close Saturday Afternoon, probably around 4 or 5. They are not open on Sunday.

If I remember correctively, there is a village in Intercourse, and also a little town section. I think there is a nice quilt shop or more in the town section. There is also a shop in the village area that has nice country stuff.

That's great info thanks. We'd be there on a Friday or a Monday.

If you haven't been to that area for a while, you're going to be in for a big shock. I hadn't until I visited a couple years ago and I couldn't believe it. The traffic is terrible too.

If you know your quilts, I apologize, but if you don't, be careful about where and what you buy. Prices are so over inflated at some locations (we have our own "Amish country" here in Ohio) and many of the quilts are all or partially machine sewn, in case you are looking for all hand done.

Lancaster County is a good place to look. Try the town of Interc@urse, PA(yes, that is the name of the town) Good selection of things. Be mindful, the quilts are beautiful but expensive.

If you have time, try the Rockvale Outlet Center nearby. You can park close to most of the shops. There's a QVC outlet store and very close to it is Ten Thousand Villages where you'll find handcrafted unique articles and clothing from villages all over the world.
