I seldom use my notebook, but today when I opened it, I have a flashing icon from LV Maintenance to allow it to make changes to my computer......(file origin: Hard drive.). When I clicked NO (because I don't know what it is) the flashing icon will not go away. Can someone please advise me on this? I have Windows 7, and obviously know very little about the basics other than email, searching the net, and posting here. Lol. TIA Demitra

I can't help you, but if you don't get help here, post this in "Electronics", Good luck, I know how frustrating these symbols can be.Smile

Sounds like some kind of virus...I think you may need to call for help...shut it down and don't click anything...many viruses are set up to start no matter which button you click!

Some sort of virus/malware.

Search reliable sources to find out how to get rid of it.

Program name; LVMaintenance

Verified publisher; Lake Ventures LLC

File origin; Hard drive on this computer

Answer

DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO INSTALL!

You've just tripped across a new Internet Redirect Virus that many Virus Protection Services cannot detect (including Microsoft Security Essentials). This is popping up because you've somehow installed Malware on your PC and now it is trying trick you into installing a Trojan Virus on your PC. If you install this software you will start experiencing odd Internet Browser redirects that will try to send you to different websites whenever you try sending a search request from your PC. This virus works by changing your network settings so that all outbound calls made from your computer are bounced off of a proxy server.

I know this because I've just spent the last 4 hours trying to clean my PC from this *&%*% piece of software. For my part it seemed more annoying then it did malicious but I've read that a lot of these proxy server viruses will open doors for nastier malware that can even steal financial information.

I was able to remove this software by following the steps listed on this site (http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-browser-redirect-virus/). Each program listed on this site found something and removed it. In addition I went through my Add/Remove Programs afterwards and found an entry for this LV Maintenance software so I removed that as well.
