[Still Raining]

CMS requires such freestanding sites to have all technical parts certified if they accept Medicare.  Meaning people and machines.  The doctors are separate.

Direct complaints to CMS or your state licensing board.

I'm a bit claustrophobic. When I had a cranial MRI, I simply kept my eyes closed until it was over. What I can't see can't hurt me, right?

I second Kaiser. My niece works there as a nurse and I've had nothing but good to say about them. MRIs, CT scans with little waiting. Same with doctor appointments. It's much better than it was back in the 70s when it would take forever to get an appointment!

@Sushismom, absolutely. The 70's Kaiser is nothing like today's Kaiser. I'm very pleased with all of our interactions. We have as part of my husband's retirement.

Do you really want a doctor to leave in the middle of an exam of a patient, simply because their 3:30 is in the waiting room?

You would be (rightfully) mad if in the middle of your husband's appointment, the doctor said, "Ooops! Gotta go! My 3:30 is here." 

Also, sometimes patients bring their lives ones with them to the appointment, and the loved one stays in the waiting room. 

That's also a very real possibility that you can't ignore.

So it may not be a simple case of "overbooking" for the lack of seats.

I would've been annoyed, but I wouldn't scream and yell and throw a hissy-fit temper tantrum to the point of them having to call security to escort me off of the premises.

Who is that going to serve?

You would have just ended up separated from your husband, which is the opposite of what you would have wanted, right?

Sometimes you just have to deal with a less than perfect situation like an adult. And if that means having to sit on the floor because every seat has a butt in it, for a little while, then that's what you do.

The insurance I have through work does not allow me to have any imaging done at a hospital because of the cost, it has to be done at a freestanding center. When I tried to schedule a mammo several years back at my local hospital which is only a few minutes from my house, they ran my insurance and told me I couldn't go there. So I had to go to one thirty minutes away. However, it was the same one my mom used, and I've had no bad experiences there. No long waits, and got results back quickly.

I've always only had imaging done in a hospital setting, never an independent center.

I do know you have to be very careful because some imaging centers actually send the results overseas to be read and there are a lot of mistakes, many things are being missed and it takes quite awhile.  I never knew that happened until I read an article in a medical journal we get at work.

In the area I live in almost all will say go to Boston if there is a serious problem.

I’ve always been referred by my physicians. Sometimes in a hospital or a free standing near a hospital. I’ve had many CT scans & MRIs and never had an issue. My husband is claustrophobic & the doctor prescribes Valium and he’s not had any major issues. We live NJ/NY metro and never had to shop around for a facility. Never had a rude tech but maybe impersonal but as long as they did my test I don’t care. I’m an adult and don’t need comfort. Just get me in and out as fast as possible.
