LIVE REPORT FROM THE ROAD TO DC

Yes, IPad and portable lapdesk here to give a report on my trip to Washington, DC. By the way, I’m not driving and typing. So far, we haven’t hit any rain which is a miracle since thunderstorms are predicted all 5 days we’re away. We canceled this same trip at the beginning of May because of 3 days of rain, so this trip was a “do or die”.

DH is driving, not speeding, although my goal is to make it to NeimanMarcus cafe for lunch....mmmmm, those monkey bread rolls w/ strawberry butter. If you’ve never had them, well, hate it for ya! I can always pass up desserts since I’m a bread person, so I’ve been known to order an extra few to take back to my hotel room. They won’t be warm any longer? Not to worry. I heat them up with my blow dryer. Amazing how I can “MacGyver” a situation if an emergency.

We’re staying at a Hilton in McLean, VA outside of DC. DH is ecstatic to use his Hilton Honor points and not pay for our lodging. It’s an easy ride into DC or the Metro is right near the hotel. Too bad he thinks my main interest in this trip is the intellectual developement from the Smithsonian. The Hilton is dead center, walking distance if I can get DH to take an afternoon nap & sneak out, between 2 grand malls...Tyson’s Corner & The Galleria (NM, Saks, Louis Vouitton, Tiffany’s, etc.). OMG!! I mostly window shop, Kleenex in hand for drooling, but w/ my 70th birthday fast approaching in July, I have a bargaining chip. You bet I plan to use it.

We have plans to walk through Georgetown and have lunch at our old haunt Clyde’s where  “donkeys and elephants” 😜 go for lunch. Before both kids fled this area last year, they lived 20 minutes apart outside DC, one in Ashburn & the other in Reston if anyone’s familiar w/ the area. We came from NC every 3 months to see the grand babies so we wouldn’t miss those bonding years, but rarely got to the museums or shopping. We bounced between the son and daughter making plans to meet for dinners. Now as luck would have it (or not), DD moved w/ her DH to outside Seattle, will be with her for my birthday, and my my son’s family with granddaughters moved about 35 minutes from us in NC & we see them all the time...Hallelujah!!

So, that’s the report from Richmond....can taste that monkey bread now. 😏

Enjoy your visit the to the DMV!

Hilton's HQ and a hotel are down the street from my office, so I know exactly where you're talking about.  IIRC, the hotel has a shuttle to the Metro station.

@Lynnster67  I’ll wave to you from my hotel window. We’ve stayed at this Hilton for many years. Oh, also forgot to mention they have a buffet breakfast, not only the most important meal of the day, but my favorite foods, too. Amazed I don’t gain weight!! I eat most men under the table. 😜

@Shanus  Oh, you're in my town!!! I know exactly where you're staying!! Enjoy lunch at NM and the shopping. Remember that Hermes is no longer at the Shoppes but downtown (not happy about that but there it is). Calling for thunderstorms today, tonight and tomorrow and much cooler weather. Not thrilled as my son graduates today so we'll have umbrellas up while he walks the stage.

Enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Shanus yes the DMV - The District/Maryland/Virginia area.  That's what many people call this area.  Enjoy your trip!
