LED, LCD, or Plasma TV.....what is the difference?

From listening to the presentations on the Q and at HSN I believe LED is better, but I'm not sure. I am looking for a 40+ inch TV with good picture quality. I don't care about 3D technology, but I might not mind the internet capability that some TVs have (not that I understand it completely).

Does anyone have any helpful hints on what to look for when purchasing a new TV? Do you know of any great deals? Thanks!
