What grade(s) did you teach, if you don't mind my asking?

@GingerPeach  Hi!  I taught Resource Math (HS) to kids in Special Education at the high school near us!  The kids were usually very "street savvy" without much guidance from home.  They took readily to "friendly jokes" once our rapport had been established.  

Even though I had the kids two or even three years in a row, the rapport had to be re-established every August when they returned to school... to "un-do" the not-so-positive influences of their home lives.

They became inquisitive and OK with some witticisms ... this banter increased their communication with me and their interest in math... a subject which sparked much fear within them!

@LTT1  That sounds like a tough yet rewarding job.  I can tell your heart was really in it!

Do you ever go back for reunions or other events to reconnect?  I'm thinking you could wear something with the flying monkeys saying on it to show how you have kept your cool!
