Our neutered male cat (not quite two years old) has always enjoyed annoying our older spayed female cat (about nine years old) -- but here lately he has become impossible. He pounces on her, chases her out of the litter box, runs her away from the food bowl, ambushes her multiple times a day. He has never drawn blood or actually hurt her, but he is driving her nuts. Our peaceful household is frequently disturbed by squawkin, hissing, and yowling! If he is around she spends her time sitting under a chair so he can't jump her from above.

When we see such behavior, we scold him, comfort our poor girl-cat, and remove him from the area, but it does't seem to make an impression. Why would this otherwise sweet cat have become such a meanie, and what can we do about it? We brought in the neutered male cat as a kitten, and were worried that the older female cat might give him trouble. Nope; he's the one who chases her. They're about the same size now, so neither one has much of a physical advantage, but he loves to assert his dominance.
