Kindle question from someone who doesn't own one.....yet

Several questions -

I have not seen one of these in person. I don't know anyone who has one. When I see pictures of one, it doesn't look like there is very much reading on one page - seems like all I would be doing is turning the page all the time. Is this true? If this is so, I probably wouldn't like one very much.

I am trying to decide which one to get. My son is buying one for me since I read so much. Can't decide between the Fire HD or the Paperwhite. I know they are two diffferent things, but my son thought I would really enjoy the Fire HD since you can do so much more with it. I don't have a tablet just my desk top computer. But I originally wanted one just for reading so maybe I should just get the Paperwhite. Can't decide.

I hope someone can give me some good suggestions. Thanks.
