@JeanLouiseFinch - I think it was the fact that you titled your thread "Kinda Weird" that made so many of us respond the way we did.

It certainly made me feel that you (as opposed to your husband) weren't completely comfortable with the situation.

However, if you were, there's no problem.

@Venezia  I don't know why? I stated in my OP that my husband was fine with answering him. The "kinda weird" part was that it's never happened with any resold trade-in, in the past.  I speculated that perhaps social media has made it easier now.  Oh well.

@JeanLouiseFinch, something very similar happened to us, too!

BINGO!  I would be livid!

@JeanLouiseFinch, something very similar happened to us with the new owner of a vehicle we had recently traded, only the new owner came directly to our home (at that time) and left a note on our door wanting info!

We didn't respond, but saved everything that our security cameras caught that day.

Thankfully, we remembered to clear the garage door code from inside the vehicle we traded.

Whew, that would be a bit unsettling!  The other person probably didn't think anything of it.

Decades ago - long before the internet - I got a call from a dealership. They asked for my permission to give a prospective buyer my first name and phone number so the buyer could ask me questions about the car I had traded in. I gave my permission. A few hours later a guy called and asked me questions about my old car. I was happy to answer his questions.

In this current day of the internet, Google, Facebook, etc.,anyone could get all your info if they wanted.

If the new buyer has the VIN they can get previous ownership info.

@madzonie  and that's what some Posters don't seem to understand. They keep blaming the Dealership.

Both my husband and I have been contacted by people who purchased our trade ins, and I believe one of our daughters has as well.

We were contacted by phone and asked very simple, straightforward questions about the vehicle; nothing about it was weird or out of the ordinary.
