I would refer all queries right back to the dealer. Decided that since my vehicle was over 8 years old I wanted to get something a little smaller so I ordered a new vehicle. No problems with my vehicle but it's kinda like----I don't want to have to start having issues. So dealer will give a thorough going over inside out and under the hood and they will give me a trade in price. Whoever buys the vehicle from the dealer may consider a used vehicle warranty. But regardless I would refer buyer back to dealership if I even acknowledged the contact (call).

I've corresponded with people over a car traded in by a dealership. Doesn't seem weird or unusual to me. If someone has a question (the left headlight isn't the manufacturer's original), I'd gladly explain (minor collision with a deer and insurance would only pay for generic replacement). Car dealerships might not have every answer so I don't see this as a big deal.

I dont know every little detail behind this car transaction, but honestly, these seem to be questions I wld want the answers to *before* I decide to buy the car, *not after.*

I have no idea what this guy's *thing* was, but I wld have been very "reserved" abt him & his questions.

What if he didnt like any of your answers, esp *after* he bought the car?  Then what?

(esp now that he obviously has much of your personal info too)

I would be uncomfortable with the idea that the dealership is disclosing my personal information to someone who is a stranger to me.

The dealership didn't disclose anything @deepwaterdotter .  You can find all owners of a vehicle with the vin # and the title.

@Karie2022 People leave all sorts of stuff in their trade-in. Some of it was document-related, particularly old insurance cards and registrations. I worked nearly 13 fun, wild and crazy years in customer service and at delivery of new car to customer I would routinely go thru their trade. Sales persons should also do that (I diddn't work every hour of every day we were open) but lots of the sales' staff were young, in a hurry, and just oblivious.

As I said before, my DH was fine answering him.  Maybe he's just especially thorough. 🤷‍♀️. We live in a small town, but the dealership is in a busier area about 30 miles away.  We did not feel threatened at all and had no reason to believe the guy was up to no good.  We just don't get suspicious right off the bat.

if he didn't like the answers, I guess he'd be kicking himself.  đź¤·â€Ťâ™€ď¸Ź

@JoyFilled Warrior Then what? Wish him/her/them good luck! There are vehicle "lemon laws" that vary from state to state. They are generally days/milege specific. If deception by dealer was involved, the state's attorney general may be contacted.

Apologize if I over stepped in my advice.

I just want to know those answers *before* I decide to plunk my money down on such a purchase.

Besides, I'm a "city girl" & we just dont do that kinda stuff, personal et al.

@JoyFilled Warrior  No worries, you didn't. The guy's questions seemed reasonable.  If they were personal or asking to meet, that would have been way out of line and DH would have shut it down.

@JeanLouiseFinch - I think it was the fact that you titled your thread "Kinda Weird" that made so many of us respond the way we did.

It certainly made me feel that you (as opposed to your husband) weren't completely comfortable with the situation.

However, if you were, there's no problem.
