When I was little, my parents who had a neighbor who raised hogs for sale. One day, he invited us over to see how a hog is processed. The dispatch of the hog was quick and painless. I even got to scrape the hairs off of the hide.
It didn't scar or traumatize me.
I had my calf "dispatched" as I held his halter rope...........didn't have an idea that was going to happen...........while it didn't scar or traumatize me.........I never ate beef from that day forward.............................................raven
I don't eat pork now, (except for bacon!), not because of seeing a hog being butchered, but because I find most commercially processed pork to be too salty.
That pork that I had as a child was some of the leanest, best tasting pork that I have ever had in my whole entire life.
I didn't cry for the hog, because I knew that it was being processed for food.
I did cry LOL............that calf was my pet...........I don't eat pork, lamb, just about any red meat........anything I might view as "pet worthy" ........................................raven

That's why I didn't get emotional. The hog wasn't my "pet".
I, too, don't eat lamb, veal, foi gras. But I do enjoy a nice, thick, juicy steak every once in a while!![]()

I have always been in the minority after reading all the continuous comments here about Kate's parenting skills. I'd love to see any of you thrown into raising 8 kids, by yourself. How would you do? Thank goodness for her strong authoritative personality! Those kids are being raised into disciplined and loving adults! I have absolutely no problem with Kate! Never have. Thank goodness she got rid of her loser husband. You all jabber on and on and on. How could you handle the situation she is in?? After you've walked in her shoes, don't be judging her unjustly.

He wasn't a loser until Kate emasculated him. He worked every day, and before he went to work, he got up very early and got the older girls ready for school because Kate always wanted to sleep in. She didn't get "thrown into" her current situation, she instigated it by her horrible treatment of her husband. She has plenty of help and money as opposed to most who don't.

On one recent episode, Jon is seen with two of the boys who are sitting in the back of his golf cart as they had accompanied him while golfing. One of the boys lamented,oh no that he had gotten dirty (don't know if it was on his skin or clothing) but Jon walked over to him to take a look and said you don't have to be a clean boy every minute of the day like your mother says; it's okay. The boy's expression was just priceless. I think Kate is turning them into neurotic little robots who are perfect candidates for getting obsessive compulsive disorder. Jon's perspective IS needed to provide balance. If Kate had been there she would have had one of her fits and brutalized Jon once again as well as not care that the kids were there.

I remember this, and I agree with everything you said. To hear her talk, one would think that Jon is no where in the kids lives, but he is, thank goodness. I remember how he wanted to play with the kids, but Kate was after him for something, even in the toy store, she had a fit because Jon was playing with the kids, unbelievable.

I didn't see the show, but saw the commercials with the lobsters. That was enough for me.
