Karyotyping genetic testing...

Is this a common test for a 37 year old first time pregnant woman? I know it checks for potential chromosome problems. Just not sure if it is routine at that age or if there may be suspicions? TIA

Re: Karyotyping genetic testing...

If they are looking for Downs Syndrome I suppose it could be considered routine. I was offered an amnio to look for that since I was older with my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies.

Otherwise, if there is a family history could be the reason. Here is a link:

It is done for advanced maternal age, if parents have agreed to genetic testing. It tests for many more genetic problems than just Down Syndrome.
