Re: Medical Knowledge

The US Military who have been in Ebola hot zones and have not had any contact with ebola patients, which according to medical knowledge would mean they have no reason whatsoever for quarantine are still being quarantined.

Why is "medical knowledge" not being trusted for them?

KLWT, I heard an infectious disease specialist talking about this. She said in the military it's far easier for any bug to spread quickly because of the close quarters (same with other situations of people living in that way). She used a phrase for it, but I can't remember it right now.{#emotions_dlg.blush} Also, it is easier to quarantine because of the logistics already in place. She said it's nothing new. But even so, I personally wish someone would make a definitive public statement about it because I think all of us find it confusing and inconsistent. It just adds to the distrust, in my opinion.

But if they haven't even been exposed to it what is the risk of it spreading?

Are they being quarantined because of any possible disease?

And, ease of quarantine should not, IMO, be the criteria. Risk to public health should.

They've been testing blood samples for the virus so they may have been exposed.

The science doesn't change just because someone was conscripted instead of volunteering.

How have they been exposed? They are not treating ebola patients, which, according to "medical knowledge" is how you contract this disease, with contact to bodily fluids of very ill patients.

KLWT and found, I don't know the answers to your question/comment. I'm not an expert on this, but I'm interested in answers anyone else has.

One could say Duncan's family was living in close quarters and yet no one caught it. We can agree 100% that Duncan was infected and his family was not.

We get it. She's not showing symptoms now. The doc in NY didn't show symptoms for 6-7 days after his return.

.....and he didn't infect anyone. You can't infect any one unless you have visible symptoms AND they come in direct contact with your bodily fluids. Two people have been infected in this country. Both were healthcare workers dealing with bodily fluids of a dying ebola patient.

Blood is a bodily fluid. This was blood from ebola patients.

Yes, I agree with you, found. As I said, I wish we could have a definitive answer, for the public, because this is inconsistent and confusing.
