Re: KING CHARLES' ADDRESS TO THE NATION

[ Edited ]

I think he did a fine job. It must have been difficult.

Re: KING CHARLES' ADDRESS TO THE NATION

I thought Charles's address to the nation was both heartfelt and appropriate. Royal experts have said that he has been the hardest working POW over the preceding years and I expect he will continue to fulfill his duties admirably as king. I wish him well.

Re: KING CHARLES' ADDRESS TO THE NATION

I've never been a fan of this man who would be King. But, I felt encouraged listening to his speech and watching him walking about, shaking hands with those hoping to greet him, which was atypical behavior for a King.

He handled it well, when one overzealous lady kissed him, not recoiling, although he did turn a little red in the face. It was sweet.

For me, his social behaviors and speech showed he was trying to present himself as accessible and standing next to his followers, not above them. Loosening the strings a bit could bid well for the monarchy.

I was glad to see him make the same impassioned oath the Queen had made so long ago (and upheld) to dedicate himself to service. He fought back some emotions, so I think it was an intentionally short speech, but it included the must's of love for family and all citizens under his reign. Again, sweet.

So, I'll give him a chance. If he fails, he has no excuses. He's certainly had enough grooming for the job. He also knows how many loved the Queen and that he has some serious Royal shoes to fill. It may make him try harder.

Re: KING CHARLES' ADDRESS TO THE NATION

It was also interesting to hear him declare his love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their new life abroad. Harry was invited to stay with his father while there but declined. The British press is going to have enough drama to keep them working 24/7 forever.
Charles have a very proper and respectful speech. I know he takes his new role very seriously and that is good for the country.

@Sooner,  the designation isn't automatic.  It's at the discretion of the monarch, and I suppose can theoretically be bestowed at any time deemed appropriate.

While of course knowing it would happen, I found it interesting that it would be officially announced by Charles, in his very first speech in his new role.  It's a nice, early vote of confidence for William...

...and for Kate, the new Princess of Wales -- who, fittingly, wears Diana's ring.

Re: KING CHARLES' ADDRESS TO THE NATION

@Oznell - Your post and the later one by @BlueFinch made me think, and I took them both to heart.

I also rewatched his address and noticed he used "darling" when referring to his mother too. I missed that the first time. As soon as I heard it I knew. I originally did think he was trying to "subtly" give some of us a message, which I didn't think was appropriate for this address. I realize now that is not the case.

I think part of my problem is I WAS a fan of his. Didn't every young girl see pictures of him in his 20's and think that? He was perfect. And when he married Diana it was the perfect fairy tale come true.

As I've posted before, I do think he tried to love her. The pictures of them at Balmoral on their honeymoon show me a young couple in love. But who knows what it was to him? We found out years later that Diana had already found the bracelet on the royal yacht engraved with Fred and Gladys (I wonder if they still use those names- LOL!).

I imagine the first starry-eyed days of marriage with Diana faded quickly, he realized they really did have little in common, and he turned to his soulmate.

I have to realize she makes him happy, the Queen saw this, and as you say THAT is important to how he will reign.

Same way someone else knew that there are no pictures of the Queen and Lilibet and Meghan would have to explain why Lilibet has no pictures with her namesake. Really?

How absurd. Made up as they go along.
