@Cakers3 wrote:@chickenbutt As much as you tried to be a good friend, trying to convince a person in a delusional state that his delusion isn't real would not work.
Especially when you indicate that he was a "severe case" and meds were not helping.
I know that now, but I didn't know then. He was a friend and I just tried everything that came to mind, until I learned so much more about bipolar, and particular mania.
As a friend, it just seemed the right thing to try and help him.
I ended up having to back away 100% because he was dragging me down with my mental health issues (PTSD and depression). I actually ended up in a very bad place for a while after that.
I don't know what ever happened with him but I have a feeling he didn't end up taking a positive direction. It was also very interesting that he didn't suffer with this until after he was in a VERY bad automobile accident. That just keyed it up and in a most severe way.
Before that, he was a successful attorney.

@Tinkrbl44 If you had looked for Charlemagne in the context of Kanye you would have found "Charlemagne Tha God" is a popular rap artist/ radio show host who interviewed Kanye on multiple issues. As to your claim that mental illness is "screwed up brain chemistry", again, you might want to look further. Current studies, as noted in PubMed and nih.org, are showing that the "brain chemistry" theory is collapsing as they are finding that the brain-gut- microbiota axis is proving to be a primary factor in mental illness. It looks like neurotransmitters are actually synthesized and more abundent in the gut, and administering proprietary, specific pro and prebiotic strains may become the treatment of choice. All this comes on the heels of the psychiatry industry having to face the fact that their "theory", (and it is only a theory), of the function of antidepressants is false. What IS becoming revealed is that these drugs, particularly anti-psychotics and SSRI's cause profound and sometimes permanent damage to the brain and the body. Why do you think they have a "Black Box" warning on each box of these drugs? As to your very valid question, what is a better option? The better option is for psychiatrists to immediately stop the conveyor belt of drugs being prescribed without first carefully and fully evaluating each person's physical and mental condition. THEY DO NOT DO THAT!! The norm is that a psychiatrist spends 15-20 minutes talking to a patient, then starts the prescription dispensing, without informing the patient of the possible serious side effects that potentially (and probably) could affect them. These people get hourly rates of $350. and up, you would think they would have enough integrity to protect their patient from harm. Take a look at a website called "Mad in America". It is a huge organization, and just one of many. You will soon notice the vast suffering of people who have been damaged at the hands of psychiatrists. IF a psychiatrist determines through testing that, for instance, a person has a low dopamine or
serotonin level, then they can more safely target one of these drugs for treatment. Wellbutrin and Prozac are common drugs for these conditions, respectively. But does the psychiatrist inform the patient that there is a very good chance that they will end up with permanent Dyskinesia from using Wellbutrin? Come on, you know the answer. These drugs are toxic chemicals, as are many drugs, and should be respected as such and not handed out like candy. The factor that corrupts the whole of the psychiatry industry is their monetary kickback relationship with the drug manufacturers. Every time they hand out a pill, they get money or a "gift", like a nice vacation in the tropics. Where is their oath of ethics? Yes, a portion of my history is medical, I am now retired, and have spent much time researching all this for years.

@chickenbutt This is why we need much more outreach regarding mental illness.
Education to remove the stigma so that those suffering will feel worthy of treatment.
Education to remove the stigma so that others can understand people are not mentally ill by choice. They suffer too.
Education and funding to reach out to the poor who do not have the best access to treatment.
Especially more funding for all areas of mental health.
Again, I give you credit for trying to help a friend.

I guess this will sound cynical but the show is over, or is it? Kourtney wanted off the show-she was too busy. Makes perfect sense to make a NEW show focused on Kim's marriage problems and how they solve them or,sadly, have to end. Gee sounds like a season that was devoted to Kim's marriage to what's his name> High drama there.
or,how about Khloe and (can't remember his name either) drama with the drug addict and eventual divorce.
This family can stay on TV indefinitly!
But the better part of me simply wishes them well!

I don't remember why Kim divorced Humpreys but he could not possibly be as complicated as Kanye. Maybe he was too boring for Kim and her family.
