Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

Years ago, when I was barely 20 years old, I was carjacked. It's shocking, amazing, what you'll do when someone sticks a gun in your face.

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

This brings back memories.  I was on a less traveled older four lane into Dallas about 8:30 one morning when a guy scampered across the road at a red light and stopped in front on my car and bent over and put his hands on the hood.

He started creeping left slowly with one hand on the hood and holding up one hand like "stop."  I put the gear in neutral, revved the engine, stared at him and pointed a finger at him--like I'm gonna run your butt over fellow!. I had my hand on the shifter and he could see that.

He looked shocked, held up two hands and then ran for it. Which was good on his part.  Fortunately I was stopped at the light and could do that.  But it opened my eyes to travel for sure. It was a long time ago.

My heart goes out to anyone facing this situation.  It's a shock and scary for sure.

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

The advice now seems to be that you should just give them your car to avoid injury.

That was part of the narrative when the girls killed the uber driver- well if he'd just given them the car, he'd be fine - that along with - oh they were just kids and shouldn't be prosecuted - for murder.

But should anyone try to force their way into my car or property? They will not find me to be an easy target!

Maybe, but he could have easily shot her in the head before she even knew what was happening.  Crime is everywhere now and is increasing due to our apparently new attitude  that actually prosecuting and jailing criminals is hateful.

"Coulda/woulda/shoulda". I don't live or deal in that world. My reply was a direct comment to @J Town Girl and her gun comment.

I am well aware of crime, and as I said in my reply. I got my CCW Permit 10 years ago for that very reason. Is it foolproof or a guarantee? No, but should something like this happen? I would rather know I had something to fight back with, than "wish I did, or call 911".

Will I get shot in the head? I can't read the tea leaves, I only know I will be better with off my 9mm than without it.

As for the criminals? A small percentage of criminals commit a large percentage of the crimes. With the "no bail" policies in a lot of jurisdictions, it is a "catch and release", and while the police risk their lives! Prosecutors/lawyers and judges risk little.

Scary.  Our car locks when we start up, hopefully.  But never know.

Glad she is okay.

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

I know carjacking has skyrocketed in the last couple of years as the country has continued to spiral downward. I feel vulnerable now even walking to and from the car in the parking lot after one of my friends was dragged out of her car as she was getting out at the grocery store.....she fought back and had several injuries....she made such a scene others saw what was happening and he ran away. She did say he is probably now a soprano after the %ss-kicking he gave him.

We lost an Uber driver here about a week ago.  When asked why he did it, the nutcase who shot her said that he just woke up that morning and said "I'm going to kill somebody today."  I honestly don't know what the world is coming to.

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

Great idea if you witness something like this and have the presence of mind to whip out your cellphone and take a photo or video of the incident for proof and turn it over to the police.  Also come forward as a witness in case it comes to trial.

Hope he got caught and glad the woman is OK.  Scary.

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

A video is the ONLY way to show/tell the police or anyone that needs to know WHAT REALLY HAPPENED! There is so much she said/he said/they said that police have to make decisions based on just that. But no one can argue with a video!! Pictures are better than nothing, but video shows exactly what happened!!
And I actually went to Walmart around 6:30pm about 2 weeks ago and was walking down the sidewalk towards the door and had a man run right by me with a police officer following behind him!! I was in a spot where there was no where I could go. I was definitely hoping the guy didn’t decide to turn and shoot, because I was the only thing/person between the shoplifter guy and the police officer. Once I got into Walmart, the man in front of me was looking a bit shocked!! I’m so used to this unchecked crime that I was back home talking to my daughter for an hour before I remembered to tell her what happened!! I told her, you know I’m used to this mess if it’s not the first story I told you when I got home!! WHAT IS NEXT? WHAT HAPPENED TO PROTECTING VICTIMS OR FUTURE VICTIMS OF CRIME? Why is it OKAY for criminals to get out of jail free?? If they even make it that far?? And with all this early sex education and it being all over cell phones and computers equaled with Soft Crime…I can see Rape becoming an easy thing to get by with and becoming a frequent crime! What happened to the Me Too Movement? Where there seemed to be thousands of people/victims that wanted their voices heard? And for this to never happen again? Seems like women and men need to wake up NOW before there is a crime wave of sexual assaults. Instead of theft. And about guns…the criminals will ALWAYS have them no matter if guns are outlawed or not!! The places that get most multiple shooting victims are places where guns ARE NOT ALLOWED! Criminals are just regular people that gave up on themselves and Target Easy/vulnerable places and people. Let’s not EVER make it any EASIER for criminals to make us and the ones we love VICTIMS! And, until anyone lives in a high crime area, please do not try to take any safety measures away from the people who do have to live in these areas!! Come personally live in a high crime area before choosing options. Love and a hope for safety for everyone reading this💖

Re: Just witnessed an attempted carjacking.

It's a tragedy what we've allowed to happen.

I have a friend who teaches in the DC public schools and she has had several instances of unauthorized people entering the school - and even her classroom.  Doors that were supposed to be locked weren't.  The Security person leaves and tells someone else to "watch the door" - and that person doesn't think it was her job so she doesn't.  Etc. etc.

And then when there is another shooting - especially if it is by a student - remember that "their brains aren't fully developed yet and they do dumb things" (like murder an uber driver) and thus we shouldn't prosecute them.

And, of course, there's the continual narrative that criminals are absolutely not responsible for shooting someone anyway because it's really all the fault of gun manufacturers and sellers.
