Years ago, before Cell Phones & GPS, I was expecting my Mom to arrive in one particular popular Airport. When she didnt disembark w/ the others, I found out she jumped this plane to one arriving at another Airport, 1:15 hr away. To catch her quickly from disembarking there, I rushed towards that much less familiar airport, & ended up taking a turn into a town that was riddled with all closed businesses, and many ppl hanging out on the street corners, "doing whatever they were doing." I was scared.
I pulled up to a Police Cruiser, & gave them 2 options:
1) "Give me my ticket now, cause I'm SCARED, & Im NOT stopping at any Red Light, to be "jumped" by the neighborhood. or "
2) "Police escort me to the Highway"
I was VERY fortunate!
They "Police Escorted" me to the Highway. WHEW!!
(added: As a result of this thread & it's presented experience, you can BET, I'm going to now, lock my doors as soon as I get into my car!)

This is horribly scary. I'm glad you survived it.
I'll remember your experience as something that REALLY happens, to ppl I know. Not just a "news item!"
Thanks for sharing!

i was thinking the same thing......
a locked door doesnt necessarily save you in a situation if they are pointing a gun at you.
if i was in a circumstance like that i would get out of the car and let them drive away. my life is definitely more important than my car.

Yesterday, (12-26-22) in our small town, we had a fatal shooting at 9:00 in the morning! A 34 year old male, from a neighboring town, had approached a couple on their way into a diner. They were able to get away from him and immediately told the waitress that they felt the man was going to rob them. The police were called. The police confronted the man, who had a knife in view. He kept walking towards the officers with the knife, even after several times of them ordering him to stop. One of the officers shot the suspect and as a result, he died. He had a lengthy criminal record of domestic violence, assaults, drug trafficking. His facebook page was full of incoherent rants. It is a very scary world we are living in!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. It never occurred to me that I would have a setting that would lock my doors as soon as I place the car in gear. I had to take my car into the dealership this past Friday and the Service Advisor showed me how to do it, and turned that feature on for me.

I had a good chuckle at the give me my ticket now option that you gave the officers.

@Tuffcookie What a frightening thing to have happened to that couple. Such a blessing that they were able to get away unharmed.
I would bet anything that someone from this criminal's family will be on the news stating that the police didn't need to shoot him. They will blame the police. I see this happening all the time in our area. They refuse to obey the police orders or else they run. I've always wondered if someone is completely innocent why do they run?
While I know that there are a few bad apples in law enforcement I think most of our officers are decent people who put their lives on the line everyday to protect us.
