Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

@Lovemyboots

I just can't believe the people who have never had a problem with them.  Both of my daughters have had problems, several of my friends, and I have had 3 problems that made me quit shopping with them/

Most all of our problems came from orders of bedspreads, pillows and sheets.  Just for a starter, I ordered a 100 dollar Siberian down pillow with 1000tc material.  Excellent buy.  When I got it, never took it out of sealed bag because I saw a few long hairs in it/  One hair was in the pillow fabric.  I was grossed out, but thought..no worries.  Called customer service, told them, they gave me ref# to send back.  I ordered another pillow at my cost.  Thought I would get refund. .  When I received refund, they deducted 60 dollars for "restocking fee".  Don't get me started...multiple calls explaining problem to CS got me know where.  My result from head supervisor was, they would return all but 30 dollars, that was final.  What I found out is, it doesn't matter what you tell them, or write on return slip.  The person opening the refund decides what you get back without reading what happened..  They said my pillow was used.  It had been slept on.  I know I said, that is why I sent it back?  They thought I used it and sent it back.  They couldn't even note that it was still sealed?

My girlfriend sent a comforter back that reeked of a chemical smell so bad we thought it was urine!  It was chemicals, but that's what it smelled like.  She called CS, they said to air it out for a few days and then call back.  After a week of airing it out it still smelled.  She sent it back, they charged her 50% restocking fee.  She had better luck than I did, they refunded all but 15 bucks, and she quit fighting, and never shopped there a gain, and wrote them a letter and contacted BBB.

I have had trouble with towels unraveling, and sheets ripping after once use (the corners)/

Does anyone know where they get this stuff?  I know it ships from all over the world.  Is it possible they don't know what they are selling exactly, because they don't see the items in person.

I have ordered earrings and an handbag and had good luck

Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

I have been tempted on many occasions to purchase an item on Overstock but never did...always closed the browser and said forget it.  I am so glad!!!!!   Thank you one and all for telling us your experiences.  Much appreciated!

Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

ordered dining room chairs and one living room chair from them, using ebates as well, They came timely, free shipping on all of them, had no problems at all.

When I order anything online, I see a "pending charge" on my account while order is being processed, once it ships, it drops to the final charge to my account,

That is how it has always worked for me with Overstock and any other vendors I've dealt with.

I did send back a Turkish towel at one time and it took less than 7 days to see the credit on my account.

Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

Well, after contacting my CC co suddenly the tracking has changed this morning on the package. Now it says I will recieve it in 12 days. Still hasn't moved tho. CC co told me just to ship it back if they actually send it out!  Wow after reading some of the coments I sure wish I would have never ordered from them!!  I also found a site on line..I think it is Consumer Affairs & it has nearly 600 complaints against Overstock!  Wish I would have looked that up first!  I could not believe all the problems people have had with them!  They should be fined or something for the bad treatment they do to consumers!  At least I know now. Lesson learned!  Glad I did my CC because they will fight for me!  How sad there are companies out there that treat people like this. I really hope the word gets out on them so other people don't get taken by them!  I know some have had a good experience but when you see all the bad reviews on them it is definitly a red flag!  From now on I will try to see reviews before I order from a new place no matter what!

I'm so glad I read this thread.  I've been tempted in the past, but I will never order from them now.

Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

I was burned by them years ago.  Ordered a new VCR and was sent a refurbished item.  Didn't realize it until it was installed and failed to work, at all!  When looking it over, there was a very small sticker on it that said "refurbished".

It went back, along with a note from me stating that I was very dissatisfied with them.

Have not and will not order again. Period!

Re: Just made my first & last order from Overstock.com!

From the warnings here, I will be careful with overstock in the future.

However, I have ordered on two separate occasions, many years apart, a queen-size memory foam bed topper and each shipped in a timely manner and I had no issues.

On the other hand, I ordered some beautiful silver filigree earrings from Ross-Simons (who I thought was an eminently respected company).  The earrings were supposed to have a left and a right.  I received only two earrings for one side.  I called and asked them to make sure the replacement shipment was for a left and a right.  Same story, no one checked and both earrings were for the same ear.  And I don't even have pierced earrings, but I thought they were so beautiful I was willing to have them converted at my own jeweler.  But I gave up because Ross-Simons didn't make any effort to correct this obvious problem.

I guess my point is sometimes you win and sometimes you don't - no matter who the seller is.

I think it is very unfair of you to post something on a chat forum where there is no way to vet  your comments and you hope that your dissatisfaction reaches other people so they won't buy. In this thread alone, I think the majority have had GOOD experiences.

As for 600 complaints, really? This retailer probably has millions of sales and finding 600 complaints means nothing. Amazon probably has thousands of complaints too, as do most other large online retailers.

Your complaint boils down to you not wanting to wait for something your ordered and that means nothing. Sometimes vendors have to wait for their own stock to come in. At Hautelook, ordering anything means you wait 2-3 weeks after the event closes, then they send you your order so it could take a month.

I have never paid a restocking fee.

As for the smell, items coming from Asia are sprayed with some kind of bug spray to prevent infestation from importing countries,. This is not limited to Overstock. If you buy an item that comes from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, you risk that smell. I got a purse from QVC once, a Maxx NY bag and it stunk so bad I had to leave it on the patio for 2 weeks. Of course that "Italian" leather Cherie bragged about was actually made in China so I learned my lesson.
