I contacted CS and was told whoever processed my return/exchange probably didn't even read what I'd written. Since then I don't bother. (Also happened when I returned a defective item and had the return shipping deducted.)
I agree with others who've posted that they now limit what they buy from the Q. The cost of shipping (and in my state, tax on it) is too high, when there are too many "misses". Unless I'm fairly certain I'll keep an order, I pass.
Same thing happened to me I asked for a shoe in a different size and got a refund instead.....but i thought perhaps it was a blessing in disguise because if that new size didn't fit right it would've been....here we go again....Just easier to buy locally!

Yesterday, during the Diamonique gold show, Antonella was saying if you use the twenty dollar easy pay and you don't like it that you get your twenty dollars back and nothing lost. That is such a lie! She didn't say minus the return shipping. New customers will be in for a rude awakening if they believe that. It's really not right she's saying you get stated amount back and lose nothing. I don't remember which item, but it was in her show yesterday.

People were ordering them....incredible to me...no way.
@tsavorite - $13 shipping for boots - WOW! That's ridiculous!
And watch out for shipping on handbags too....$13 and it comes in the same ole box as the rest of their merchandise.....and heavier items have a lesser QVC shipping charge....go figure ......QVC has lost many sales to me because of this...
@Spurt - so how does HSN offer many many of their items daily free shipping and the Q can't? I don't understand unless HSN's sales are much higher. HSN will offer free shipping on makeup or shoes or fashion an entire month! (In fact, I think shoes are free shipping always on HSN - might be wrong though). I just ordered a treadmill from HSN but first talked to customer service because of my concerns that after reading reviews, a few people said when they received their treadmill it was falling out of the box. I asked them what happens if the box is in poor shape when it is received, can I refuse it? They said "sure, just refuse it and we'll send out another one to you - no problem". Their customer service exceeds my expectations.
I think it has to do with financial results---you can read the reports on the Liberty Interactive site (they are stock companies), and also Linda Moss posts the link on her blog and comments on the results. It looks like QVC uses shipping charges to boost revenues, while HSN has been struggling a bit the last year or so, so they use their free shipping as a way to encourage consumers to shop with them.....Just different approaches. But it looks like HSN might be reconsidering their shipping approach as several people have commented on getting HSN surveys regarding their shipping policies.....And HSN looks like its still struggling.......but sales were also down in the last quarter for QVC too.....I think that has to do with several things---repitition with products/programming, shipping and "try me fee", quality, inconsistent sizing, and in some cases uncompetitive prices (like clothing for example)!

@Spurt - I think HSN's policies make me want to shop with them more when I need something. I usually don't buy clothes, shoes on either site, just something I am in need of, but I always look to HSN because of their shipping policies - I hope they don't change them. I think overall all of the shopping channels are losing their appeal - people are realizing they can get clothes and shoes and many other items cheaper locally without paying shipping and return fees. Everyone's prices are just so outrageous anymore - $50 for a basic sweatshirt? not happening in my world.

Jayne Brown said it too...these hosts should mention you can return it within 30 days but original shipping will not be returned unless its defective!

@VAbelle...great advice! I did not know that. But then again my returns average 1 or 2 a year. But, living in Hawaii, QVC's shipping costs are at least 3-4x higher than on the mainland. Because of that I'm very cautious about ordering clothing unless it's a brand that I know and love and have worn the same size for years. Otherwise I don't risk it.

I also get quite a few HSN promotional emails too---while I laugh at QVC and their "featured price"---WOW a whole $3.54 off the original QVC price---nellie bar the door--LOL!!!
I think where the Shopping Channels went wrong is they have the advantage of showing/demonstrating/enticing people through TV, yet they don't use the medium properly and choose to bore their audience with endless repetition of products/programming...Also they used to have truly UNIQUE and DIFFERENT merchandise, now they sell mostly the same stuff you can get locally or through the manufacturer's website .......They both partnered and bombed with commercial enterprises and/or celebrities....(HSN is especially bad with this---with the Wizard Of Oz aequel and the "JOY" movie).....And how much did QVC used to spend on remote locations only to show the SAME products---I laughed out loud when they went to NYC Fashion Week---only to show fashions using a cardboard backdrop of NYC---LOL!!! It was like the remote was to give the host/crew a mini vacation....and let's not een discuss those celebrity tie-ins....
QVC's clothing prices are so unrealistic....because they compare the to Boutiques...who shops in Boutiques.....I can go to Dillards and get a blouse regular price for $30 (Oh I know they have their pricey lines, but they have some reasonable clothing lines too), and QVC charges $49 for something equivalent + $5 shipping and then there's the "try me penalty" if I return it.....NO WAY!!! QVC needs to STOP comparison shopping in Boutiques and do a more REALISTIC apples to apples comparisons! Ask their customers WHERE they shop locally etc!

I rarely shop with QVC for a variety of reasons but the main one being, s/h costs.
HSN has free s/h on shoes all the time. Most of the TS' have free s/h and they'll have banners of specials for different items. Also, I usually get a bi-weekly coupon for 20% off a single item.
Many of the Q's vendors have their own web sites, they offer discounts, sales, free s/h etc.
If there is an item I see on any web site, I comparison shop on the web and if I find a better deal, I'll buy it.

I learned my lesson a long time ago on this shipping and handling thing. First of all if something is wrong with the item, any item, I call customer service and tell them I am returning the item and they have always credited my shipping on my credit card. Also I hardly ever use their return labels, unless it is something pretty heavy. I ship on my own cost. Also they will credit that amoount to return if it's defective. I only buy now what I know will not get returned or it's something small. I see the shipping costs on handbags have went up a lot,.
HSN on Thursdays have free shipping on beauty products shown in the Beauty Report. That helps a lot too.
