When we first moved to South Jersey, my phone number ended in 0002. At first I was so glad because I thought it made it so easy to remember. I soon found out it was a curse because we received phone calls for various businesses all the time, and a lot of them thought they had dialed 2000. I finally called that number and it was a business, and the guy told me he got a lot of my calls too!!

I've never received calls from anyone wanting to order carryout but at one time, an elderly couple kept calling my number, wanting to make a dental appointment for themselves. They'd leave a message, I'd call them back & leave them a message stating that they weren't calling a dental office, they were calling a private residence. They'd call me again & leave another message stating that they wanted to make dental appointments. This went on for a few days until I finally stopped returning their phone call & leaving them a message. Now that I look back on it, I'm thinking it was kids that had nothing better do & were pulling a prank.

I got a call about a year ago.
Male Caller: "Hey, baby. I can't wait to see you tonight. Do you know what I'm going to give you"?
Me (thinking it's a perv): "I hope a million bucks or at least dinner in a fine restaurant".
It wasn't a perv. Obviously recognizing that mine was not the voice of his girlfriend's, he stuttered then apologized. I could just about see the red in his face through the phone. I wanted to be of some help to the poor guy so I asked him the number he dialed. It was one number off from mine.
I told him not to call his girlfriend -- better to just surprise her tonight.
He laughed.

I once had a male caller ask what my hourly rates were. When I said "excuse me?" he asked if this was the xxxx motel & I said "no." He aplogized & hung up. I looked up the motel's phone number in the book (the old days, when we had city directories) & found that their number was 1 digit different from mine. I laughed about that all night. Maybe it was a missed opporunity?
If he had to ask about your rates, he wouldn't have been able to afford you.

I usually don't answer the phone if I can't identify the caller on caller ID.

Our town has two different prefixes used before the final four telephone numbers. I once dialed the wrong one and someone answered and I was surprised and said, "oh" very surprised. Before I realized what happened she said, "guessing you want to refill a prescription at Walmart - that is the other prefix and this happens all the time". Poor thing!
