We did that for awhile. It keeps getting extended for longer and longer.

More lecturing and making assumptions about people.

Since you didn't mention 1 of the other Major League Sports I will. That sport is the National Hockey League, NHL.
They have had players/coaches/broadcasters now for going on 3 weeks. They have played many exhibition games, and started Stanley Cup Playoff games Sunday.
There are a total of 24 teams 12 teams and staff etc. playing in Toronto Bubble and the other 12 teams playing in Edmonton. During last night game in Toronto, they said they had performed over 7,000 virus tests, and there were ZERO Positives.
They are all in the Bubble and that is where they stay. If there is a reason they must leave they cannot come back, that is my understanding. Amazing to me how I seldom hear anyone connect the NHL to Major League Sports!
The NBA/NFL/MLB to me are now nonexistent. They made decisions they feel is right for their sport, and I made my decision to no longer be counted as a fan.

As soon as I hear anyone compare COVID-19 to the flu, I tune him or her out. In the 2018-2019 flu season, there were 34,200 deaths, of which 25,555 were 65 and older.

@Lali1 I don't think we ever did it to a meaningful extent. Here in the SF Bay area, we "shut down" in mid-March, but I was still going to Starbucks everyday (inside of Target) and to various grocery stores trying to track down things like TP and paper towels that were out of stock everywhere. Masks weren't required until a short time later. So many businesses were deemed as essential that most of us could have lived without for a couple of weeks.

The world has to turn, and life has to go on. We cannot all lock down for months, even if it would work. People expect their electric to come on every day all day. They expect to have emergency personnel and hospitals at the ready. They expect food on the grocery shelves from farms, to processing plants to shelves to their car and homes. They expect to order from here or Amazon or Walmart and have it delivered to the door. They expect an endless supply of whatever goods they feel they need or want to be manufactured and at the ready.
All that cannot happen in a bubble.
People have to earn a living. They have to pay the rent or house payment. They have to pay the car payment, the utilities, buy the food, keep the kids in shoes and clothing.Businesses are already dying from restricted type business models to adapt to the virus. What are those owners and employees going to do?
The government is trillions of dollars in debt, so who is going to pay for everyone to stay home?
We can slow it, but every time we open up, it will spread again.
We better just get used to the fact that this isn't going anywhere, at least in totality. It's going to be a part of life, maybe forever, but at least for the long term.
Sometimes I think that maybe the bandaid should just be ripped off.
Oh boy! That is a dangerous point of view! And I agree, I have had the same thoughts the last couple of months.
We had to shut down to slow the spread and have time to ramp up our ability to handle it, that made sense to me.
But it really seems like this just is going to have to run through the population for us to really be able to move forward. If what some speculate is true, that the virus is changing/weakening, then perhaps we will see lots more cases, with lesser hospitalizations and deaths, and make it more feasible to run with it.
