I've been reluctant to do the Win11 update.  Question, (if I decide), do I just hit the upgrade now or need to disable any antivirus software?  About how long did the update take?  TIA

@Sugipine, thank you.

@Sunshine Kate

For my PC, the Win11 update took around 15 minutes. But that can vary depending on the age of your computer. Computers (usually newer ones) with a solid state drive (SSD) will install faster.

I did not have to disable my anti-virus software to do the update.

@Sugipine

I've had Windows tell me to disable my anti-virus / anti malware software before installing an update. There (could be) complications.  It's been two or three years since I upgraded so I don't recall if my system encouraged me to disable my antivirus or not, but if it didn't I would have anyway.

@monicakm

Maybe I did disable mine but I really don't remember doing that. LOL!  It's been a while since the update. Yes, it is a good idea just to disable it anyway.

[ Edited ]

I decided to upgrade to Windows 11 after reading here.  I have a question.

Required action

To move your information to the new experience, head over to the Family Safety website and review your options. To keep the default settings from being applied, update your preferences by February 20, 2024.

 I was going to look at the preferences for change, and it wanted me to put in my "new email to start"!  I don't have a new email and they already have my current email because they sent one regarding the above.  I don't want to make another email address.  Has anyone had this come up?  Can you explain more?  TIA

@Sunshine Kate  I did not have that notification come up when I upgraded to Windows 11.  Sound like you might have had it on your Windows 10.

From what I've read on Microsoft, you can turn it off in Windows 10 before upgrading to Windows 11.

Here's a fast and easy 3-step guide.
  1. Step 1: Go to Settings. Click the Start button and select the gear icon. ...
  2. Step 2: Click “Accounts” in the Settings menu. ...
  3. Step 3: In Accounts, click on “Family & other users.” Find the Microsoft Family Features option, then click “Remove” or “Disable” to turn it off.
