Nothing gets me into the Christmas spirit like the decorations, the music, the smells, and even the silly Christmas movies. I decorate in November and everything is completed before Thanksgiving. Another thing I like to do is attend Christmas events at churches and attend a live performance of a Christmas play or The Nutcracker. I don't do much gift shopping. In fact, most of the few gifts I do buy are ordered and shipped directly to the recipients.

My husband and I have only put up a tree twice in the last 30 years. No one saw it but us. The work of putting it up was okay but taking it down and storing it all was too much. We used to go away at Christmas and worked long hours so it just seemed a lot of work for nothing. Now retired we just are too lazy to mess with it all. It seems when you take it all down the house is dreary and sad looking. As for gifts we buy what we want when we want it. We don't wait for Christmas to get something. As for other people I don't know anyone who needs anything. When I was a kid I only got stuff at birthday or Christmas. So it was a big deal. Now kids get stuff all year long and so do adults so I don't bother with gifts at Christmas. I do think it is fun if you see something someone would like and you get it for them for no occasion.

House is decorated. I've been playing Christmas music. Today I'll wrap a few gifts for my husband. Don't have any desire to exchange presents with family. We stopped doing that last year and it was fine with me. When I send out cards, I'll enclose checks for the kids and my sister knows I renewed her newspaper subscription.

I told the kids its time to pass the baton. What use to take me 2 hours to do takes me 2 days. Now I want to sit back and enjoy!

@Sapphiregal wrote:I've done no decorating or shopping yet. In the past, by this date, I would have most of my shopping done, tree up, and all that. No wrapping, though, as I have always put that off until the last minute. I just can't seem to get with it this year at all. I did order a few items online, but, was very disappointed when I got them and had to go through the ordeal of returning.
Ahhhh.....I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
Aw...I'm so sorry Sapph! Just take it one day at a time. Turn on the Hallmark Channel or some Christmas music and try not to pressure yourself. Praying for you.![]()

I have never been into Christmas, but it was my husband's favorite time of year and it was always at our house and he wanted to go all out. When he died two years ago I forced myself to go through the motions and have everything as "normal" as possible for the (adult) kids. Last year I stayed home alone, didn't put out one decoration, probably had a sandwich for dinner, and honestly it didn't bother me. This year it's at my house again and I'm dreading it. Yesterday realizing it's three weeks away gave me more anxiety because I have nothing done. Bah humbug indeed.
