In the dressage competitions that I've seen, it's almost like the horse and rider are "one" fluid being kind of, (I'm not describing it well) and they look like, they can turn on a dime. Lots of Practice, Practice, Practice for sure!

@MoJoV You would enjoy as I do, the freedom classes they have at Arabian horse shows. They bring the horse to a large empty arena and turn it loose. They run and prance, wheel around, kick and run some more, whatever they want to do but always moving. There is a trainer with a carriage whip to keep things going (horses are never hit). The horses are judged on how good a show they put on.
