You are so right.

Christian or not, folks should at least realize that the 12 days signify the period between Christ's birth and the day the wise men finally arrived in Bethlehem, i.e., January 6, aka Epiphany.

And while we are being reminded about Christmas December is an important month for many beliefs.  For example:

Hanukkah 2018 begins in the evening of Sunday, December 2 and ends in the evening of Monday, December 10

Buddhists celebrate Bodhi Day on Saturday, December 8th

Hindus celebrate Dhanu Sankranti on Sunday,  Dec 16th and celebrate Geeta Jayanti on Tuesday, Dec 18th

The song "Twelve Days of Christmas" have been mistakenly said to be a code regarding the twelve days of Christmas.

Probably based on a 1600 hymn called "A New Dial".
