@gmkb I was not excused the second time.  When I called the night before, fortunately I did not have to report, but they did not outright excuse me because I had a baby.

@hckynut John, I found your description of election duty so interesting because I've never heard of mandated work at voting sites. Do you mind saying what state you live in?

Neither have I. It's all volunteer here, and plenty want to do it. They get paid over 100, but have to be there all day . They can't leave to go home.

I worked for a courthouse for 30 years and could get out of Jury duty early in the game. Not anymore! I had to go one year. Didn't get picked but was the last one to be interviewed. Had to wait all day in the courthouse. I knew most of the judges, etc so i thought it was a slam dunk, no waiting all day. But I was wrong! Go figure. I hope I don't get summoned again.

I never received a notice for jury duty until I was in my 50’s; not sure why because I’ve been a registered voter since I was 18.  We receive paper notices and they only ask if there’s any reason you can’t serve and it has to be mailed back.

I didn’t have to answer any additional questions until I was chosen as a potential juror. I didn’t end up serving because the case was about a traffic accident and I had been involved in a similar type of accident.

There was a woman who acted a little kooky who I suspect was trying to get out of serving.   The case was about someone who ran a red light and crashed into someone else.  This woman acted very emotional because she didn’t like traffic lights – not cars or people – traffic lights.  She carried on about her fear or whatever of traffic lights.  It was very strange.  Of course she wasn’t chosen.  For anyone who doesn’t want to serve I guess all you have to do is act nutty.

After that initial call to jury duty I get notices constantly now.  The flood gates have opened.

@Desertdi  I had to Lol on this one!!!  You gave me a good laugh today.   I wrote my response before I read this but I mentioned that it seems all one has to do if they don't want to serve is act nutty.  I had one in my group too.

I think that nutcase served on a jury with me.

@shoesnbags - I'm curious too.  I thought any election duty is volunteer only; maybe compensated, but always volunteer.

It is nearly impossible to get out of jury durty here now.  Back in the day, it was super easy. Now, not so much.

When I got summoned, I was going to be out of town 2 of the days out of my time.  I had to put into writing why I needed to be excused and I had to send a copy of the Lease with it, showing that I had indeed rented a place for those 2 days.  They excused me for those 2 days only.
