I could not stand doing jury duty. Having said that, I NEVER did not go and fulfill my obligations. My main disgust was the system quite frankly. It has changed somewhat but for many years we got jury duty for two weeks - you had to go EVERY day and sit there. It was horrible. Most times, was never called but spent all that time sitting in the courthouse. Miserable. Did serve on several trials - most quite serious and will tell you, it is an education - usually there is ONE juror who argues about everything. LOL and one juror can cause a no verdict, or whatever. I never enjoyed it.

My other complaint was 18 year olds were allowed to serve - give me a break. I recall vividly one trial when we met to discuss the case, this 18 year old says "I cannot vote guilty ever as I did not see him do what he is charged with."  He should never have been allowed to become a juror with that attitude. Thought all the rest of us was going to have heart attacks. Just think about that - really bad. And when some tried to go over the rules again so he would understand that NONE of us saw the incident he complained to the judge all of us were trying to force a guilty verdict. Not so but it was horrible.

Am so thankful I no longer have jury duty. Yippee!!!

What would happen if you were called and tried to get out of it (for either a legit or non legit reason) and could not and then just didn't show up? What would they do to that person. I have always wondered that. I suppose I could google it.

I never thought of that...

I was called three times for jury duty.

I went twice, but didn't get chosen the first two times.

The third time that I was called, I was really ill at the time and got a letter from my doctor and was excused.

@Irshgrl31201  Here they say you can be arrested and fined and that they will do it.  I don't know if that happens or not.

I have been in the waiting room when people came in very upset, asking to be excused for a family emergency, one was a college grad who had her first job interview in months and said she had to get a job because she wouldn't be able to pay her rent much longer.  She had proof of the appt but they wouldn't let either one out of it, and they WERE harsh about it.  Oh, and btw, that was when there already several HUNDRED of us in the waiting room who could have filled the requirements.

I'll say it again, the system here has been awful, imo.

I threw one in the garbage once (extenuating circumstances lol) about four years ago and I'm still waiting for the fallout!

Oh, wow. That is crazy. I cannot believe they would not let her go considering the circumstances and that she had proof of her appt. Seems very harsh considering all the people waiting. I wonder what she decided to do. If I were in that situation I would have gone to the job interview I think.

I think you are safe!! Hahahaha! I guess it depends on where you live and who is in charge.

I witnessed a co-worker being escorted from work by a sheriff and deputy because she didn't show up for jury duty.

Wow, the court system here seems to be run by control freaks.  They must have to take the Myers Briggs test to apply for the job and be able to score high on the trait of an authoritarian personality.

I postponed jury duty for the allowable six months almost two years ago.  I never received another notice.  I'm wondering if I'll be arrested when I renew my driver's license next year.  Yikes.
