I just received the preliminary paperwork to serve as a juror last week, the first time in 30 years. I was surprised at the number and depth of questions, obviously used for pre-screening on both sides. I will have to be available for the month of June, when nothing else is planned in my life. I'm looking forward to it.

@chickenbutt         After being called for local jury duty twice in one year I had my doctor write me a letter to say I couldn't serve due to health reasons. I never heard from them again.

Where I live, you can be called once every 6 years. I've been called every 6 years since I moved to this state. Sometimes I've served, sometimes I haven't. I have no issue with doing so and if chosen, take the job seriously.

Here, it's every 2 years to serve.

Many of us would like to serve, but there are people who have real medical issues, have to take medication every couple of hours, cannot sit for a long time because of pain, etc.   I'm only guessing that some folks in pain and/or on pain medications probably wouldn't be as alert, etc. as far as being able to be fair, or able to listen to all of the facts in a trial.  After all, when we aren't feeling well, all we want to do is to go home and lay down.  Just an opinion, and thank goodness that our court system is fair and recognizes certain reasons why some people aren't able to serve.   Heart
