Re: July 4th plans?

[ Edited ]

I live on the top floor of my building and can watch the fireworks from my window.

Stay home because it's way to hot to do anything else. Can't bbq until late Oct or November because it's to hot so maybe eat out somewhere. Hope and pray my stupid neighbors don't start shooting off fireworks at 7 and finish at 5 am like they have in the past.

We still live in the same neighborhood as when our kids were little, about 40 years ago. It was a great neighborhood - a cul-de-sac. The kids would decorate their bikes, trikes and big wheels and put on a parade for us. Then we had a neighborhood picnic and set off our own fireworks. It was THE BEST!

Some of the original homeowners are still here, but we're mostly retired. There are young families moving into the neighborhood, so I'm hoping to see some kiddies celebrating this Friday.

We plan to smoke chicken, sausage and corn. I told DH I didn't want to cook, because our kids are coming for a week starting on Sunday. I'm sure I'll watch fireworks on TV in Philly or DC.

I think we're going out for lunch. I was just checking to see what restaurants are open Friday.

We will have our usual visit with DS and the grandkids on the 3rd and joining their family (DDIL too) on Sunday for an outing.  A neighboring town is doing fireworks on the 3rd.  The weather has been so miserable here, unbearably hot and humid.  I'm not terribly interested but if our grandkids want to go, this nana will suck it up.  At the moment we have no plans for the fourth. I'll cook here for DH and I.  Staying in the air conditioning suits me fine.  I'm not even bringing up the topic of fireworks with DH as to where the displays will be.  If he finds out on his own and comes up with a plan, I may be  sucking it up again. 🫤 🤫

@haddon9

Hopefully stay inside where it's not 100 degrees Smiley Surprised  Probably go out to eat but I'd rather not be on the road with all the drunks.  DH usually talks me into driving to town to see the fireworks.  I'm fine with turning out all the lights in the den and watching fireworks on the tv.

Now that sounds just like the 4th of July celebrations we used to have before my mom died Smiley Happy

We are hosting a family BBQ.  I figured people have had their fill of hamburgers and hot dogs by now, so I am doing something a little different. We'll be making Carne Asada, shrimp and chicken tacos, elote corn, tomato cucumber avacado salad, cheesy roasted potatoes with chorizo, and ranch beans. Guests are bringing apps and dessert. A local winery makes wine slushies so we bought a couple bottles of their strawberry wine and will attempt at making them here. Also margaritas and beer. Yay!

I think all of our company will be gone before fireworks.  We can watch them from our deck but a local orchard is having them and selling tickets for $10pp.  I might just buy tickets and decide that night to stay home or head over there.

Enjoy the 4th everyone!  I'll take my patriotic decor down in a couple weeks, pull out my sunflower decorations and start thinking about Fall and cooler weather!

@PA Mom-mom We're still in the same neighborhood where we raised out kids as well.  We've been here on our cul-de-sac for 33 years.  It was great and is still a great neighborhood!

I miss the days when we were raising the kids and there were a lot of other kids for them to hang out with. There were block parties,  graduations then weddings, etc.

Now most of them are gone replaced by new families who are really nice for the most part but I don't have much in common with families with school aged children....makes me feel a bit old but I'm not ready to leave my home and move yet.
