I was sad to hear when Julian was missing. I hoped for rescue early on, but then it seemed unlikely. I really liked him.

In his earlier films, he was strikingly handsome, still so, with added years. I think I had a little crush. RIP, Julian.

There was woman who died up there earlier this year. The mountain is treacherous. There have been 15 people rescued off that mountain just this year. Never hike alone. That woman and Sands were both hiking alone.

As a former mountain search/rescue member I believe something needs to be done to keep hikers safe. Improve trails or close the area for hikers.

ITA ....  I've always thought when people are hiking in national parks or government property, they should check in and get a "tracking device" of some sort.   It could mean the difference between life and death ... but of course some will think it's their "rights" being compromised.

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes wrote:

Someone has updated his Wikipedia page showing June 23rd, the day the remains were discovered,  as the date of his death.

That seems unnecessarily presumptuous until a medical examiner's report (and if it is Julian, the exact date of death may only be surmised.)

In any event, one of his brothers has said the family already accepts the inevitable.

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes  Odd. I don't see a date of death only disappearance.

Unless Wiki has since removed that date.

I agree the true date of death will only be estimated but it is not unusual to have the date of discovery used as date of death once a person is identified especially after so much time has passed.

RIP Julian 😔

There have been multiple edits since early this morning,  including the removal of date of death.

Julian Sands is a great actor among many other British actors.  I have been aware  he was missing and the search for him had started up again.  It is a sad situation of course and I am sorry for the family.

He went missing a long time ago. January? The weather turned bad. Massive snow followed. He clearly didn’t survive but finding him has been a challenge and must be awful for the family all these months. Apparently, he was an experienced hiker.

The woman who died on that mountain was also an experienced hiker. She even had a nickname..."Dancing Hiking Queen". She also died in January of this year.

While I really know NOTHING about search and rescue procedures, in places like this .... wouldn't drones with heat sensors flying overhead be the obvious way to find someone "quickly"?
