It used to be up to 10 years for a joint.
I don't know about drugs but I do know they get for than that for stealing cars if it's a repeat offense.

He says that now. Let's see if he feels that way once she's in the slammer...lol My guess is he'll find someone else to make meatloaf for him.

Good example. Seems to me her offense was a lot worse than two cars.
Years ago, there was a well known case of a young guy, student I think, who was caught with a joint and sentenced to ten years. Whoever it was wanted to make an example of him.
Last I heard, he'd stayed in for almost that long. Ridiculous. It became a cause celebre.

I'm pretty sure that I heard on the news that 7 years was the maximum she could get for this crime.

Louisianan Given 13-Year Prison Sentence for Possession of Two Marijuana Cigarettes
Amicus brief by Drug Policy Alliance Highlights Why Sentence is Cruel & Unusual and Urges Louisiana Supreme Court to Review Mr. Noble’s Sentence
NEW ORLEANS—The Drug Policy Alliance filed an amicus brief today urging the Louisiana Supreme Court to review the egregious prison sentence of Bernard Noble, a 48-year old man who was sentenced to 13.3 years of hard labor in prison without the opportunity for parole for possessing the equivalent of two marijuana cigarettes.

...The bill for the manhunt that ensued. Who do you think paid for that? New York State taxpayers, thank you.

OK, thanks, I thought you meant the cost of jailing her.

I think her Dateline interview helped her. Some people felt sorry for her after watching the interview.

Never would I feel sorry for that woman and what she did. I know from some of the press interviews that her husband (he would pronounce it hubbin) isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer either.

Phew... at first I thought the title read Joni Mitchell. My heart stopped ...until I read it again.![]()
