Re: Johnny Carson and Mr. Cavett

Johnny Carson was one of a kind. The old pros were all very good; I loved Steve Allen although I was kind of young to fully appreciate how funny and talented he really was. Merv Griffin was so good, as was Mike Douglas. Does anyone remember Virginia Graham? She was probably the first female talk show host and paved the way for women hosts.

Nobody could top Johnny, as far as I'm concerned. NO-BODY!

Didn't like Jack Parr. I thought even back then he was a bit of egomaniac and a narcissist. Seemed like he was more into himself than anyone else.

Carson? The best of the best. My other favorite "comedian" had a similar name? Carlin, as in George.

what a wonderful trip down memory lane....I am old enough to remember all of them when they were hosting...Johnny was the best around...but the others were great in their own way....this old timer misses those old timers....

ITA!! In watching the clips from the shows of the 60's, I laughed louder and harder than I have in years of watching some of the current junk that's on tv.

For me, Johnny Carson was the best of all. I miss his quips, facial expressions in response to stimuli (bad joke or something flung at him) and his pretend golf swing when his jokes tanked. Deep down, I had a crush on him. My husband was an early to bed, early to rise type, so when he went off to sleep and I stayed up for Johnny, my husband would say, "Okay, I'll leave you with your boyfriend." I always enjoyed that little exchange.

I totally agree! No one even comes close to Johnny.

Re: Johnny Carson and Mr. Cavett

CNN's special presentation, "The Sixties" was shown last night. It marked the beginning of the TV age (although I thought the Fifties did that). It was good and brought back a lot of memories, as I got married and had babies during the sixties. I just wish they would have focused less on the TV shows and more on the social changes that occurred during that decade. The show should have been two hours. They missed a lot of important events.

No one can replace Johnny, he was a genius at what he did. He and Ed were the best.
