Re: John Hinckley, Jr. releasted, going to Virginia to live

I had to refresh my memory on what's been going on with him, because last I heard he was having scheduled visits with his parents for years now. When I looked it up, he's been staying with his parents for longer and longer amounts of time for 10 years now. It looks like the last few years he's been staying with is parents for 17 days at a time at least 8 times a year and all these visits have been evaluated to determine if they can continue.

Looks like his Drs and the courts have been working to determine if and when he could be released for 10-15 years now. IMO they've been very diligent in monitoring his visits.

Re: John Hinckley, Jr. releasted, going to Virginia to live

He suffers from schizophrenia and that doesn't just go away without medication. So what happens if he decides not to take his meds? He is a threat but he comes from $$$$ and I think that had a profound effect on why he was released. Only a few years ago it was found he was writing letters to Jody Foster... This man needs supervision from medical professionals for life.

Whatever he was - mentally ill or evil - he is a threat to the public and should not be released. He has already demonstrated what he is capable of. JMO.

Obviously, his Drs ( the actual mental health professionals treating him) and the courts disagree.

Re: John Hinckley, Jr. releasted, going to Virginia to live

Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who served on two presidential details, criticized the decision to remove Hinckley from the clinical setting.

“Just because he hasn’t acted up in a clinical environment in decades, doesn’t mean he does not have a proclivity to act out violently when he’s out of that setting,” Bongino said.

Hinckley’s release will put a significant burden on the Secret Service, Bongino said, any time a president travels near Williamsburg.

“They are going to have do some kind of surveillance operation, and watch him whenever the president is around,” Bongino said. “There is no room for error on this.”

from the same article and I agree with all.

Reagan’s children, Ron Reagan Jr. and Patti Reagan Davis, have opposed release, saying they do not trust Hinckley because of his past deceptions.

My best friend of many years has a BIL that we both went to school with who is schizophrenic, I knew him before and after he started having symptoms and was diagnosed. He lives in a group home. They are monitored to make sure they take their meds.

Hinkley has also been extensively monitored for the many years that he's been allowed out of the hospital to stay with his parents.

I guess we're just supposed to poll the public for their opinion and go with that instead.

Like any illness schizophrenia varies with the individual and there are different symptoms. Just suppose Hinckley starts to hear voices in his head to kill someone else?

Many group homes are monitored by minimum wage employees with little interest in the people living there. There have been many reports about this in the news. I have seen how the system works and releasing this mentally ill man is a travesty.

Hinkley isn't moving into a group home. He's moving in with his parents, that have already been hosting him for longer and longer visits for many years all the while being monitored by the court and his Drs.

That's why he can't live on his own and is only released to live under his mom's supervision.

If he refuses to take his meds, she can have him committed.

I can't find any stories that say he's written to Jodie Foster recently. Could you please post a link to the article where you read that?
