Oh dear....it has definitely been one thing after another for him. He certainly is an inspiration....always a positive spirit. Hope he is able to enjoy this Christmas with his family.

Such a sad time for the Carter family. Of course they have to release a statement that contains some optimism. I have the feeling that he will not make it til the end of the year.

wishing him well.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are such caring and optimistic people who serve others less fortunate than themselves. If only others could feel the same way..

If it's not one thing its another. He needs to stay in the hospital for a month in case something else crops up.
When he gets out, I hope he uses a "walker and/or a cane." He's fallen to many times to be w/out them.

Poor guy just can't stay out of the hospital. And I'm sure he's glad the whole world knows he had a UTI.
I hope he gets well soon and enjoys a quiet Christmas - at home.

I was thinking the same thing. I hate that we all have to know every detail of his health. Anyway, I wish him well.

Yes, President Carter has been in and out of the hospital frequently recently. But, please let me say that a long term stay in the hospital is not necessarily a healthy thing for anyone, especially an older adult. There are too many possibilities for infections which are difficult, if not impossible to cure. All things considered, I would rather be in my own home, and he can certainly receive good non-emergent care there.
Also, there is a point which I believe is often over looked when we talk about others health. Many, intelligent, rational, cognitively intact people consider their medical treatment options, and opt for quality v/s quantity. I made this decision myself recently. Sometimes the treatments available, for certain diseases, or the side effects, are really unbearable. As none of us is guaranteed any certain number of days, and considering President Carter’s age, perhaps he has made this decision.
Much respect and All Good Wishes for President Carter, his Family, and Friends.

@Drythe My husband and I made that decision over 30 years ago. What a relief when he was suddenly without hope. I knew exactly what he wanted and made those choices much easier (although in shock). Over the years, my legal documents have been updated regularly and my family remains well aware of my wishes. All of our lives will be spared needless grief, lack of dignity and my last wishes granted.
