Jersey Shore...Not Just a Resort or Memory

Since Sandy all I have heard is about memories from those who visit the shore. No one ever speaks for the people who grew up here (50 years) and live here year round. The devastation to this area is massive and one poster believes we are in good shape. It is so crowded here now that the revenue from visitors is not that impactful to the area. Perhaps 20 years ago, but this area has changed dramatically.

I live approximately 3 minutes from Seaside and my in-laws lived in Lavallette. The destruction is immense. The gas lines for miles must be replaced. The water lines have sand in them. There are sink holes all over the place. Houses sitting on Route 35 and sand for miles. The boardwalks are non existent and discussions we have had with those who are working in the area don't see this being repaired too soon. My neighbors didn't get electric back for 10 days.

I only wish is that reporters would first get their facts correct and that people would cease worrying about if they can get to the beach by June. As permanent residents we need to pick up the pieces and not rush. If we have a snowy winter it will minimize any ability to finish cleaning up the area. This won't be an easy task or a quick fix.

Global Tech is selling hoodies and t-shirts "Restore the Shore." I am not affiliated with them at all. I bought them to support the area I grew up in and love. Please pray for the shore and the people who reside here. Praye
