Ahhh, Jerry Vale. Most of us boomers especially remember him so well. I have a CD of his all time songs.
Al di La is my favorite song - the meaning is so special - you are beyond everything. How much more romantic can you get.

I grew up hearing Jerry Vale on my mother's hi-fi. His voice was so pure, pitch perfect. Few of today's singers have that gift.
This song always makes me tear up - from the film with William Holden and Jennifer Jones.
I too love that movie. (it was on recently) Jennifer Jones was my father's favorite actress. I love all those hokey love stories from the 1950's and early 1960's. I remember my parents going to see them at the movies.
I do too. My mother is/was a movie buff and always seemed to find these movies playing on TV. I ended up loving them too! Remember Million Dollar Movie? Mom loved William Holden and my Dad loved Lana Turner.

I grew up with Million Dollar Movie on channel 9, WOR. Didn't they use Tara's Theme from GWTW?
I think they showed the same movie twice a night. (7:30 & 11?) I couldn't wait to get the new TV Guide to see what the week's movie would be. One of my favorites was Mighty Joe Young.

Yes, channel 9! WOR NY. We got that channel along with 8 (New Haven) and sometimes channel 3 and later 13 (we were on LI and had a roof antenna).
Yes they did use that "Tara's Theme" and Manhattan at night with all the lights! My Mom ruled the TV viewing and movies were #1. We had a TV Guide cover with a gold metallic look and the TV letters were velvet! Loved getting the TV Guide!
ohh now I want to see "Love is a Many Splendored Thing". Maybe a DVD at the library.

When I was a kid, I thought Mighty Joe Young was a movie about a boxer! LOL!

My brother is/was a musician, and I sent him an e-mail a couple hours ago, and I included a comment about the passing of Jerry Vale. He (my brother) returned a message that read, in part, that he had "chatted with him [Jerry Vale] many years ago in Florida." I responded that he had a wonderful memory.
My brother then wrote this in response to my comment:
"He was having lunch & I intruded (Miami / Seven Seas lounge gig). Vale was performing upstairs (Persian Room). Very gracious gentleman, he was."
It appears that Jerry Vale was very much a gentleman.

One of, if not THE best singer of Italian songs. Al Di La, MalaFemena, Arividerci Roma.... such beautiful songs sung by the best! I remember sitting in my grandmother's kitchen with mom and grandmother listening to his albums on her little stereo player. RIP Jerry Vale

The Donahue/Pleshette movie from 1962 was called Rome Adventure, and featured Al Di La. Roman Holiday was from early 50's with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
