Re: Jenny McCathy and her son.

Jenny McCarthy is a mother. I'm sure she has done and is doing everything she can to make sure her son is properly diagnosed and being well taken care of. I'm sure that she feels very strongly about her son's situation and was only doing what she thought was right. I personally wouldn't take any person's medical advice other than my own doctor and health care provider.

Exactly. She is a dingbat.

I agree with NoelSeven in that I can't fault her for believing what the doctors told her about her son's condition, but I can't stand it when celebrities throw out unfounded "scientific" claims about treating illnesses or other conditions. There's no science involved; unfortunately, a large portion of the population will believe anything they see in print, regardless of the source.

Whether her son is autistic or not, scientific research has shown that the claims that vaccines cause autism are false.

This is what is important. Why people take medical advice from her is beyond me!

I wonder how much money her book on this subject produced. She should donate the proceeds to charity, if she hasn't already.

The so called 'reports' are not true. Please look above at the posts regarding Jenny McCarthy setting the record straight.

Re: Jenny McCathy and her son.

The doctors told her that her son had autism, she didn't make it up!

If her son was misdiagnosed, that most certainly is not the fault of Jenny McCarthy. Was she supposed to not believe the medical experts.

Also, many, many mothers (and fathers) have stated they believe vaccines to be the cause of their child's autism long before Jenny McCarthy stated her beliefs. A British researcher, Dr. Andrew Wakefield is the one who really gave credence to the link between vaccines and autism. What about his influence?

As far as diet goes to cure autism, I can remember reading in Parents magazine a story about a woman whose son was diagnosed with autism right around the time he got his MMR vaccine. This woman claims she found info online from other parents who said to change his diet. She also said the autism was linked to the MMR vaccine. This woman and her online acquaintances said they believed dairy to be the culprit of their children's autism. I read this article probably 15 years ago.

Misinformation about autism has been told to people for long before McCarthy spoke out about her beliefs. How many children have been misdiagnosed by doctors?

I wouldn't be so quick to disparage McCarthy. She was only going by the diagnosis given to her by medical experts and the information that has been circulating for a long time--long before her son was ever diagnosed. Medical experts spewed some of that misinformation and many people were influenced by it. Maybe now, other parents will question the diagnosis and demand more testing so their kids won't be misdiagnosed.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield's research was fraudulent. It has never been replicated but thoroughly discredited. Twelve of his subjects in his study were preparing law suits against the manufacturers of MMR vaccines. Dr. Wakefield is no longer licensed to practice medicine in the UK or US.

Re: Jenny McCathy and her son.

As the mother of a child with an autistic disorder, this all makes me nuts.

To infer that a child is "cured" of autism by diet or whatever is irresponsible.

I would not listen to someone like her regarding such a serious issue. She has a right to her speech, but I wish she would choose to SHUT UP.

Re: Jenny McCathy and her son.

Why are all of you bashing Jenny McCarthy? The story isn't even true, she even tweeted about (LilaBelle posted the tweet) but nobody took the time to research this. Are you sure she's the dingbat? Hmmm. Sounds like too many on this thread don't know how to read or research.
