Please accept my sympathy to you over the loss of your friend and his girlfriend in the Malaysian plane crash. They must have been the lovely couple who had just opened a flower shop, and I also saw a picture of them. People were leaving many flowers at the door of the shop. There are really no words but I am truly sorry.

Thank you, MM. I am not familiar with the couple you are referring to. The young man I knew was a foreign exchange student at our local high school many years ago. The young lady, his girlfriend, came to the USA to attend college - earning masters degree here, studying for her doctorate, and was on the rowing team for Indiana University a few years back. I was not super close with the young man, but feel a bit "off" today just the same. I remember him as a bright, fun, and friendly fellow. He made several friends here among his classmates and remained friends in the years that followed. I can't imagine what their families (or any of the families) are going through right now.

This story has been on our local news. She is the one that was also on the rowing team while at IU, correct?

I am so sorry JeanLouiseFrench. Such a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to all of the friends and family of those that were on this plane.

The girl that was the IU Grad and once on their rowing team was the girlfriend of the young man I used to know. They were flying together. I saw a passenger manifest today. I shouldn't have looked at it, but I did, and got this pain in my gut when I saw they boy's name on the list.
