You can do both.

Years ago Jane was hosting a Northern Nights show.  She was presenting flannel sheets.  There was one item number that had different choices of solid color sheets.  Then another item number was a plaid set.  So she demonstrated how one of the solid color choice would go with the plaid set.  Then she gave the item numbers for both sets.  Yes that could be viewed to sell more sheets sets.  Definitely true.  But to me it also showed she had prepared for the show and could present the items intelligently.  I have seen her demonstrate this same skill with say a bangle and earrings that have the same design.  She is prepared and for that I respect her very much.

Yes and that's how the hosts should be presenting product instead of filling air time with all this personal info. I get it that people are lonely out there and like to be caught up in the hosts lives, but I don't care for it. In my opinion Jane is self serving and pretentious.

So, you've just agreed "that's how the hosts should be presenting" then said that Jane is "self serving and pretentious".

The post was about Jane and how well-prepared she is and how well she presents the products.  So which is it?  I'd say, by your own comment/standard, she's an excellent host.

I do not agree at all with the poster who called Jane "self-serving and pretentious."

There are many other hosts who could be called that, however.

Jane does her homework (as the OP beautifully indicated), and I enjoy her personal stories.

You're not alone!  I like the stories, too, proudlyfromNJ!Cat Very Happy  We buy items for personal reasons, many times.  Why not hear hosts tell what an item may mean to them personally!

Scoot over and let me sit by you lol!  I like her too.

@sunala, Wow I just came back to this thread to see if there were anymore replies and see your post.  This brings me great joy today, for which I desperately needed.  I won't go into personal details, but every now and then it's nice to have encouragement along the way.  You have a great day and know that you bring sunshine to so many on this bulletin board and in real life also.  Heart

@Dell1  I don't think people have an issue with her being prepared - it's all the other stuff  in her presentations that is annoying.  That cancels out the preparedness for me.

One point for being prepared.  - minius ten points for the hand guestures, all the talk about her family, her talking nonstop, esp. over vendors, etc.  It's no contest.  Glad she's prepared but since I don't listen to her for the other reaosns, it doesn't matter to me.

I just marvel at the way she can talk while smiling the whole time.  I have tried it in the mirror several times and I simply cannot do it.  That is a great talent!

She could do a lot worse.

I think Jane is well-dressed and I like her style.

It amazes me that fashion to me makes these two ladies look like they are in different decades, although both dresses are very pretty.

It makes Jane look older than Nancy to me.

I have recently begun to like Jane T. very much.  Maybe it's being similar in age (i'm early 60's)  because I can hardly stand watching the young hosts. (Amy,Shawn,Courtney bug me with the way they dress, the way they talk, etc).   I really enjoy Jane's sincere enthusiasm, her stories are entertaining in my opinion without bragging as many younger ones seem to do,  and Jane is not vying for attention or seeking approval from all the vendors who come on.  So many hosts, past and present, seem to just stand there and wait for the compliments come their way from the vendors and the callers.  It drives me crazy....the show isn't about THEM!!

Jane is professional, has a pleasant appearance without trying to be younger than she is, and pleasant voice.  I enjoy watching her.

The style may have been popular in1959 but it was also popular has recent as this summer.  I have seen many beautiful lace dresses this year.
